Any other M5 owners out there that have made the switch? The M5 is a great sedan, but most of the time I'm the only one in it and I'd prefer something lighter and sportier. It also seems like the C2 would be more fun at the occasional track event.
Any encouragement/discouragement on making the switch?

The M5 IMO is thee best sport sedan there is as I have drove one of my friend's M5 and boy is there gobs of trq. Plus with the manny transmission I consider it a sport sedan over others(Mercedes-are you listening?). If you find the practicality of the M5 not useful for you then I would say '03 996 C2 or C4S is a good pick. But if you don't mind used(I always like new cars though) then maybe a 993 TT or 964 3.6 T is some good ones for Porsche if you like the torque. In the track- P-cars are great on the track and just sheer joy. Regards and good luck. Mike

i have had both the m5 and the 996 - and in ideal world with no family/practicality issues the pcar wins due to the fact the driving experience is sublime - m5 great car but cant touch the pcar on driver rewards - so really depends on practicality - the pcar is no 4 person car and compaired to the bmw the luggage space is laughable - having said that i run a 996 as an only car with wife, kid and dog - the sacrifices we make.......

Thanks for you comments. We have an '02 Honda Odyssey as our family hauler, so the 996 will pretty much be my car only. That said, I think it's a good call. Now I just have to see what kind of deal I can swing.

I owned an M5 before my 996 and I can tell you that the driving experiance is far better. There's a sence of involvment and intimicy that's sourly missing from the M5
