Default It's Finally Here!!!!

Finally...my factory aero 996 arrives after a 40 day wait...I won't even get started on the shipping delays.

On the truck

So I sign all of the paperwork and come out...my wife is already strapped in and pulling out of the drive...soo much for getting the first drive.

OK...Down to business. Even though it rained on and off all day the car really needed some TLC. Rob (cupcar#12) used it as his daily driver and the car was as could be expected...actually i was thinking it might be a bit worse if anything.

Process:
Wash
Clay (about 2 hours worth due to LOTS of contaminants)
SSR3 via Rotary and orange cutting pad @ 1500rpm
Menzerna IP and white polishing pad on PC @ speed 6
Menzerna PO85RD and white pad on PC @ speed 5
Zaino Z2 (x2)
Pinnacle Soveran will be applied today when I get home after giving the Zaino some time to cure.

Before Hood.

Front Fender was my test pannel. As you can see the fender has been polished with all 3 steps and the door is untouched.

Afters. - no protection yet just polished.

And a couple in it's new home. (I really need to paint the walls!!!)

M030 shocks with H&R springs. It's REAL close to where I'd like to see it height wise although another 10-20mm drop would be Ideal for me. In driving it yesterday it is a bit soft for my taste (even the Audi is stiffer). We'll see how it stacks up for track times...if it's dry both the M3 and the 996 are going to Nelson Ledges on Friday for a test and tune day.

Thanks for the compliments.

IMO the ride height is excellent. Much lower and you risk the "slammed" look of the Japanese imports. Which is fine if that is what you want.

Interesting to hear the comments on "soft" with the H&R's. Do you know if the M030 shocks/struts are US or ROW? Does the ride seem "matched" with the springs and shocks with no "bobbing" or “porpoising” up and down over uneven pavement.

The Shocks are the standard US M030 versions. H&R springs have nealy the same spring rate as the stock sport springs and ride just as compliant as stock with no complications.

Of course my time in a stock 996 is limited to a friends car...but riding in them back to back and you'd never know the difference.

Andy,

Congratulations on the purchase, I was suprised with your comments on Intercity Lines. I was under the impression they were the "go to" company when shipping pristine vehicles.

Greeat job on the detail work and I have the same issue with my garage. Banners on unfinished walls..some day I will get around to finishing my garage like Sandovals.

I won't bore you with the details in this thread...after confirmation you're given a timeframe for pickup. It took twice the time that was sent to me in my confmation letter to get the car picked up and never once was I phoned about delays. I had to call to check on the status before anyone informed me of the delays. All it would have taken was a simple phone call telling me that there was going to be an extended wait and I would have been a little happier about the situation. It's never pleasant to be 10 days into a 10-14 day wait only to call for a staus to be told that the truck was on the east coast (car was in Seattle) an would be headed west in a few days.

Andy, Glad you are enjoying the car.
I'm going to chase down the tail light relay tomorrow and ship one out to you. Also Montie said there was only 1 horn the other was for the alarm - not sure i buy that, but you have the wiring diagram in the service manual on CD that i sent, so i can't chase that one down. If anyone knows if it is a dual horn setup ala every other 911 prior to the 996 let me know. If the horn is shot - i'll send one to you.

- Enjoy
