Question Opinions on Exhaust Systems

I'm looking for a replacement for the stock exhaust system for my 2000 996 Cab as the factory unit is too bland for my liking. I haven't been able to listen to the differences between the various after market systems, even the OEM sport exhaust.

So, can anyone comment on the following:

  • Porsche Motorsport Exhaust
  • Fabspeed
  • B&B
  • Mille Miglia
  • TechArt
  • plus any others of merit?

I'm looking for that deeper, fuller sound but not to the degree that the car sounds like a motorboat.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Since most of these do not add HP or torque (some actually rob you of them), I suggest the factory sport exhaust. I've heard it and believe it sounds great. Some of the others are lighter but may cause flat spots somewhere in your rpm range.

Go to www.porschedriving.com/cars.html to hear the sport sound exhaust system offered by Porsche.

I have Fabspeed headers and exhaust. I'm pleased with the sound (more guts without being boomy) and a dyno test did show minor improvement in HP and torque across the RPM range. I have not experienced any flat spots.

I can comment on Fabspeed and B&B exhausts:
Stay away from B&B! They resonate unacceptably @ around 2800-3000rpm!! Very annoying (and you're talking to a guy who likes some resonance in his exhaust - but this one was unacceptable!)

I have Fabspeed on a 993 (no affilation, etc..) and love it! Perfect idle sound and WOT sound! I've heard the Fabspeeds on a 996, and was very impressed. Made the 996 sound like a sports car! Also, I think the oval tips are very clean..

Hope this helps!

Again, for the umpteenth time, I've had B&B cat backs on an 89 C1, 96 993 and my current 996. I've not had any fitment, cracking, breaking, resonance or other problem on any installation. They are substantially lighter, give a great sound throughout the rev range. I know of many happy B&B Porsche customers--in fact, in Chicago PCA region, B&B's greatly outnumber any other brand/manufacturer of aftermarket exhausts and I've not heard of 1 B&B complaint. FWIW. Thanks for the feedback on the exhaust systems.

Does anyone have an example of what the Fabspeed sounds like on a 996???

Hi. This might be a bit late, but here's my .02¢ on exhaust. I've heard the Fabspeed and like them a lot. I eventually decided on the Milla Miglia. I liked the build and construction. They are far lighter than stock and beautifully made in Australia. The fit was nice and easy and the sound is just beautiful...to me. Obviously a very subjective thing to speak of. The only drawback whatsoever was that the tips are welded on. But other than that, they dropped weight and added a great low rumble at low RPM and then roar when I step on it. Just great. I paid $1200.

GL,

Josh

When you replace exhaust systems and keep the original tips, how are they secured? Are they welded?

On the mufflers, many can utilize the factory tips and the factory big tips but a few are welded like the ones I have from Milla Miglia. The mufflers with removable tips, like the factory units, utilize a simple clamp to keep the tips in place.

I have Fabspeed 100 cell cats and exhausts coming. Would the sound be benefitted by an "air box"? If so, which one? Anybody trade exhausts and not do the chip? Did it work well? Is there a downside to the air box mod?

I have Fabspeed on my 2001 c2 which was moved from my 99 c2. Its now 2 years old, sounds great, not too loud. I track the car so they get beat up real good but holding up well. I have no removable tips and they did turn gold, but a little metal polish fixed that. New ones dont do that. If you like loud call Fabspeed, they put something on a 993 that was awsome.
