Michelin Pilot Sport Cups-need heat trtmt?
Track season is coming soon and I'm gravitating towards getting R-compounds for the season and seems like most recommend the Pilot Cups over other brands. My question is whether to heat treat them or not. I remember reading a car mag(comparo of other r-compounds tires) where they don't need to. What is your suggestion? Thanks in advance. Mike

Just rode in a c4s with them on. They do need to be heat cycle, but dunno about what you mean by heat treated? I have never had to do anything with slicks on my race cars other than take it easy a couple of laps and wait till they heat up just like the brakes.

Proper heat cycling will improve their grip and life slightly but they do not *need* it. The Michelin Pilot Sport Cup seems to be pretty good out of the box.

Our club just had a tech session with michelin tires. The MICHELIN MAN said that heat cycling was a waste of time. They would cycle in a couple of laps. He seemed to think that it would actually shorten the usefull life of the tire, since there are only about 50 cycles in a tire. Unless you are doing the 24 hours of Rolex, I guess I will not do it.
Best part of presentation was that some lucky guy won an F1 wheel with a Michelin tire on it. Thats gonna be some coffee table!
