Question When's the Next Generation 911 Coming???

I'm contemplating on either waiting for the 997(?) or purchasing a 2003 C4S. However I don't want to wait another 3 years to get one. And does anybody know what it will look like?

"Designated 997, the next-generation Porsche 911 is well on its way to a 2004 introduction as engineers are busy putting it through its paces in hot-weather desert testing."

It mite get a bit use to having an eight in a Porsche but a 3.8 six with 350hp would be great. But what autoweek mentioned is that the 997 will be longer/higher/wider-wide is fine but the longer and higher bothers me. Having been a at Porsche dealership they rumored that 2004 will be the last production date of the 996 but it's just that. Regards. Mike P.S.-the C4S is way cool.

Regardless, I wouldn't be caught dead in the first year production car of a new iteration of the Carrera. Give 'em a year to iron out the gremlins. Even if they are covered under warrantee, it's a p.i.t.a. to bring the car back and forth from the dealer.

I was in Stuttgart today and the Porsche guide showed me the Cayenne V-8 engine and told me that it has great potential for further development. He seemed to imply this engine represents the future for Porsche, so it would not be suprising to see it play a role in a 996 successor...

I don't know how reliable that picture is. One of my forum friends was actually able to generate the same picture using the back end of the Carrera GT and the front end of the 2002 Carrera. I can't read german, so I don't understand the caption, nor do I know what the magazines rep is.

Not buying a Porsche now because a new model may come out in 3 years is like not buying a Pentium 4 computer because sure as night follows day a Pentium 5 is on it's way. The 911 has been here forever. Maybe some changes for arguably better or worse, but it certainly has not killed the ardour we still all have for the older models.

Even if Porsche decides to start an all new model line with the new 8, the 911 is here to stay. Remember the 928? It has come and gone , but the 911 in 996 guise is still here.

In 2005, my 996 will be three years old. Who knows, if the 2005 v8 Porsche is anything like the 928, I may just start collecting Porsches. Who says you can only have one midlife crisis? I may also win the Lotto.

However, come to think of it: The 959 was the precursor of the 993. I believe the Carrera GT will be the precursor of the 996 successor...

BTW: Motor Trend (Jan 2002 Prediction)

"2005 Porsche 998: Front engine sports car takes over the role once claimed by the 928. The 2+2 coupe will share its powertrain with the Cayenne sport/ute, with power ranging from 340 to 450 horses. "

And here is the source for the picture:German magazine Stern

I'd agree with Motor Trend. It is going to be a front-engined V8. A 2005 928!!! The love of my life resurrected.

I also agree that the Carrera GT is most likely the precursor of the next generation 911. All 1000 slated for production and delivery for 2003 have already been sold at $500,000.00 each. And the final design isn't even in yet! Talk about money to burn. Betcha Seinfeld's got one of them.

Jim, it could happen. Especially if they see me in my silver bullet. I'd pick Britney Spears, though I heard it can be done in the 911.

I've had my first '911' for only 15 hours....hmm...perhaps this weekend. But my C4S has supple full leather. I'd hate to ruin it.

Put the rear seats down, place the front seat all the way forward before you set the seat back down. Almost like a bed Worked in a 930 Turbo Uh, or so I heard.

Cool

Or if it's a cab/targa just open the top and move the seat back
