3M vs. Stongard...Bay Area installation?
was wondering if anybody had any opinions on 3M vs. Stongard film? is one better than the other, are there are drawbacks vs using one over the other? also, any recommendations on installation in the bay area, ca? thanks in advance.

FYI, Stoneguard, Autobahnd, Armourfend, etc. are all the SAME PRODUCT made by 3M!!!! Different retailers/installers have different cuts and shapes for their pieces, but it is all the same clear film. Try to pay around 400 or a bit less, that usually is dealer cost on the product, installed. Most come with a 3 yr warranty.
Good Luck.

I got a quote today for my new '02 for one of the 3M products (I'm not sure, it was either Stongard or Invinca-shield). The installer wanted $480 for the front nose/headlight area/front fenders, plus $440 more for the front bumper-- $920 for just the front of the car, without mirrors, fender area or anywhere else!
Anyway, I'm going to keep shopping; I think I can find a competent installer for much less. Seems like there is tremendous variation in the asking price for this stuff, and I have a feeling if I'd asked for a quote for a Honda Civic, pricing might have been somewhat different...

The 3M material is the same for all the brands, but the way they cut the kit is different.
The most important thing is to find an experienced installer. Porsche bumpers are very tricky.
I had my Stongard installed by DetailWerks in Campbell. They did a very good (though not perfect) job.

If you're a halfway decent DIY'er you can do this for less than $200. I purchased a kit from invinca-shield and installed it on my 993 last month - kit comes with a video (no affiliation...yada, yada, yada). I spent $130 and 2-3 hours of my Sunday AM. Bumpers tend to be the most difficult part so if you don't have the confidence then you can consider leaving this part to a professional and doing the flat areas yourself.

there's a place i found in fremont, Clear Solutions, that said they do the installation for most of Claridge's cars as well as some other high end bay area dealerships. i got a quote for the full package on a full aero kit. the quote was around 900 including tax.
