Question Digital instrument display options

I noticed in the display where the digital speedo is there are few other things that can be displayed other than just outside temp, like avg MPG, avg MPH, distance to empty, etc. Is there a way to switch through these with the service computer or other method?

Thanks!

If you have the computer, all of those things will show with just a flick of your wrist.

If you don't have the computer and you have a 1999 and early 2000 car, there is a magic way that the brain will turn on the outside air temp. Most dealers know how to do that.

It is my understanding that later cars will not allow this for some reason. Maybe Porsche woke up and decided that they wanted you to spend the big $$ for the computer

Other items outside of the temp cannot be displayed without the On Board Computer. Temp display only can be turned on by your dealer. They should not charge you to do this. Recalling several threads along time ago regarding attempts to add the OBC stalk after the fact is that it wasn't easy or unsuccessful. Sorry

Your dealer needs to turn on the function using their PS2 tester. Basically they are telling the car that you have the OBC option. Just turning it on will give you outside temperature because that is the default display. If the dealer won't do it or won't do it for free -- go to a different dealer. I don't know anyone that was charged for this!

3 options once the dealer turns it on...
1 - Do nothing and be happy with the outside temp (I am that's really all I wanted)
2 - Buy the OBC stalk from your dealer, remove the steering wheel (without deploying the air bag!) and install it. Now you have the factory equal. Here is a link to a PDF installation doc OBC Stalk Installation
3 - Do a hack that a number of the Boxster folks have done that allows you the same functions by wiring to a switch on the dash. Here is a link to that procedure Yoseif 's OBC Hack

Good Luck on your decision

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the info, I currently have the temp on the display, but would like the distance to empty. I think I will try the OBC hack. I work at the Porsche dealership, so cost will be minimal.
