I think you should give me the number of that dealer - I have a 99 I am just about ready to sell.

I spoke to a buddy of mine who is a sales manager at a local non-porsche dealer. He wholesale booked my car (C4 cab, nicely optioned) at around $38,600. He said that based on that a dealer would probably offer me around $34,500, and yours has 20K fewer miles than mine. Might not be too far off.

I will keep you guys posted though as I am about to get my car detailed and then list it for sale.

And I was told the more popular colors are worth more because they are easier to find a buyer for. My family has been in the car business for 35 years. Even Porsche salesmen will turn any situation to sound better. If you're serious about selling your car or just REALLY want to know it's value, i'd try getting the same offer from another dealer. Did they have any 997S Carrera's you could trade for? Now I'm curious what their game plan was and, only if you wanted, how you could take advantage of it.

The sales guy will probly not discount the car you buy from the dealer. He is just fishing you to get thinking about a new car. If you gives you a high trade in, he'll not discount the new car for more than a grand or two. In the end, you still come out about the same, maybe 1-2k more than if he had given you 30K for trade.

My watch shop did the same to me once. He offered me 1300 on a watch trade in. I bot the watch from the same shop 8 yrs ago for 1000! I am sure he won't discount the new watch much.

Get it???

went to a dealer service day and the salesperson was talking to me about a new Cayman S. They went as far as to tell me what my 1999 Carrera with 32k miles on it was worth on trade. They offered me $37k trade-in on my car.

Go back to the same Dealer and ask him what he'll pay you for your car. Tell him that you aren't interested in buying a new car at this time. I never mix the two transactions.

i took my pretty well optioned zenith blue 996 to the stealer in nashville and he similarly offered my 35-36k for my car, on a cayman or a 997 s cab

it actually made me think quite seriously about moving to the little croc

Actually that is much better than I thought. I like pleasant surprises! I like the Caymans S for sure, but I am worried it will become the next Audi TT in my neck of the woods. I work in a relatively affluent area and the Audi TT became the VW Beetle for housewives too rich to drive a Beetle. The same happened with the Boxster. I am just waiting for the Cayman to become the next "hot car" on the list.Maybe the fact that it is a hard top will keep that crowd away.

Who cares what other people are doing with the car? Cayman S has a very nice driving experience.

I just do not want to drive what many other people are driving. The Cayman S will be a great drive I am sure, but when you see 10 of them everytime you go out for a drive it becomes not so specail anymore. Maybe that is just me. YMMV.

It's not just you, it's called exclusivity. If you want an all around great car that gets you from point A to point B, than I don't think the 911 is a very good choice!!

Riad, you're so right. The 911 has become the VW Beetle of NYC and the Hamptons. But I don't drive it for exclusivity. I drive it because the damn thing puts a smile on my face every time I drill it on the Hutch and the Merritt Pkwys....not to mention the countless country roads in Westchester.

When I bought my 99 996, my insurance company (State Farm) stated
it's value was only $28,000 if something happened to it.......

Too true!

Thankfully, P-cars (with the exception of Cayennes) are pretty rare in my neck of the woods

I can see in certain areas, if you want exclusivity you need to look at a F-cars and L-cars
