I have always thought that when you leave it on and then turn the back engine on it could not be good... Compare it to when the power goes out at home and then comes back on.... The power surge can not be good for the electronics....

I used to turn the AC off before shutdown back in the 70's, otherwise the compressor stayed on even during start-up. New cars nowadays have the AC automatically turned off during start-up, with a few second delay upon engine start. So, no, I no longer turn the AC off before shut-down or start-up.

I guess Porsche doesn't have the same problem, but with BMW's E39 5 series if you didn't turn off the A/c about 30 seconds before shutting the car off, during the summer months youd get a real musty smell coming out of your vents.
