Latest Porsche rumors....
According to the German car magazine "auto motor & sport":
A fourth model is being considered. It will use the Cayenne's V8 engine. The Leipzig production site for the Cayenne is large enough for a fourth model. Two options being considered: a high-end 2 + 2 V8 front engine coupe (928...) or a front engine V8 station wagon. Another alternative is a front engine V8 car in the class of a Bentley GT. Decision will be taken apparently in the Spring of 2003, but will probably not enter production before 2008.
In the meantime:
The Cayenne model range will be extended to include a pickup truck for the American market.
The Carrera GT will start to be delivered beginning of 2003.
The 996 will be further developed. The next model will be slightly longer and wider, and will have a redesigned cockpit. At some point in time it will receive a 3.8 L engine with 333 hp.
A new GT3 will be delivered Spring 2003 with 380 hp.
The next boxster model change is planned for 2004. A coupe will be included.

Do you guys think Porsche should get into making station wagons or the Cayenne for that matter. I feel they should stick with developing sportcars, which is what made them famous. I'd hate for the car market to get flooded with Porsche's all of a sudden. Part of the fun of owning a Porsche is that you don't see them very often unlike MB's and BMW's. Just my 2 cents...

Porsche AG is delivering what they feel is what the U.S. market wants. If what you want is a GT3 in the States, make yourselves heard with your Porsche rep...

the 2+2 front engine blue coupe in don's post looks way cool! it looks like a bmw z3 coupe on steroids!
i hate trucks for everyday use but i don't blame PAG for building one. over 51% of all passenger vehicle sold in the u.s. are light trucks. that is our own fault as americans.
the comraderie between porshe owners i'm sure will come to extend to the cayenne which looks pretty cool for a damn suv. with 25k suv's worldwide they will still be rare.
a pickup truck will be harder to swallow
i read in the n.y. times yesterday that the 2 best selling cadillacs are their suv and their pickup truck! truly there's no accounting for american's taste.
i would bet that within 2 years the best selling porsche will be a cayenne i just hope this provides the profits for porsche to remain an independant company in a world dominated by automotive leviatans even bmw sold 1 million cars worldwide last year. i think their best selling model is another damn suv. ces't la vie!

Don't want to appear a sceptic or "pourer of cold water", but I strongly suspect that the likelihood of a pick-up truck variant of the Cayenne is faint to say the least.
More likely a "sensational" "scoop" for a quiet week in the German Motoring Press....
I could be wrong.... and pigs might fly jet fighters....
