Good Morning,
I would like to move up from my 2.5 Boxster, am currently looking at a pristine example of a 2001 996 Cab. Very low mileage (25000km)
But would like a little more horses, hence am considering a RUF Kompressor. The supercharger they introduced last year.
Has anyone ever tried this on their car? Whats the impressions you have.

Should I expect other modifications than just a bolt on of the compressor (brakes, suspension) I know this car has the P-sport suspension factory fitted.

i don't think there are many RUF SCs out there because it is so friggin expensive. most ppl, have the EVO/vortech supercharger.

the RUF SC is NOT just a simple bolt on. you have to remove the engine. disassemble the heads to install a gasket to lower the compression and install new intake plenums specifically made for the SC. the kit is highly engineered but there is a price to pay in parts and labour.

the EVO is truly a bolt on kit. i think youhave to remove the engine for the TPC SC kit.

all good things in life are expensive.
In Europe actually there's a lot of tuners, but onlytwo are very well known and supply you with a warranty.
Hence RUF and Gemballa.
I understand that indeed it's an engine out exercise, I wouldnt have expected anything else. A just bolt it on exercise would worry me.
But then I would like to hear from guys that have a supercharger installed on their 996'er and what are the things to look out for.

I met two guys at a DE who run their 02 996 EVO SC cars on the track with no problems. I also met the guy who installed them. I was skeptical of the reliability until I met these guys. They drive HARD and have not experienced any problems on the street or track in the past 1-2yrs.

you are SOOOOO right chris. when it's installed right it's be reliable, and more powerful than the Ruf kit. it needs to be installed by an approved evo installer. we both know about the dyno on the Ruf SC. they won't post the results. i wonder why... hmmmmmm if it made more power or it was at least on par then they would definitely post their results.

Another Carlos chiming in... have had my EVO unit for over a year, both on track and off, and no issues. I love it!

Ahh yes, but not all 'installers' are the same. the local guys(evo trained) here have only done a few, and the results are questionable to say the least.

there's a guy from toronto, ca who had mike from evo do the install. you know that install has got to be "proper". not sure who paid for the plane ticket and hotel though

Karlooz, sounds you have a good set up for your 996, saw your pics she looks realy hot.
Anyway isn't it so that whatever SC ones chooses the installation needs to be spot on.
But in a way it does not matter which SC one chooses, I have the feeling the enigne can really handle it
But Karlooz as far as I can see you did change quit a bit on your car
What are the absolute MUST DO items when considering a SC.
Lets say we go for something like 50 to 75 extr BHP
This EVO chaps I assume they are local to the US right?
But then there's alos quit a few European supplier, of course headed by RUF and Gemballa

Hey Carlos what pads are you running with your stoptechs? I have the pagid orange. They're great but I am really getting tired of the NOISE during daily normal driving. thanks.

i am using pagid yellows on the track and bhp on the street. i tried using the yellows on the street but i couldn't take the squealing. i even chamfered the leading edges but they still squealed. the bhp pads are really good. i was told by stoptech that they are the highest temp rated street pads and are actually ok for light track use. they come with anti squeal pads adhered to the backs of the pads. they don't give out much dust and have better than stock cold bite. kinda pricey.

for a 01 cab with a RUF supercharger, why not just buy a TT?

that is unless you can't live without a roof
