Dealer told me it would cost $800 for transparent bra on lower front bumper,
both mirrors and a strip down both door openings. I'm not about to do it myself but the price seems mighty high. I know this has been kicked around before but and I paying extra because it's a p-car?
Agree with Riad. The price is too high and should only be done professionally. I had the front bumper(upper and lower/all one piece=more expensive), hood, lights, and mirrors done for less that 1k. My car is black and some guys won't even touch it because the color is so difficult to work with.
I've had mine on for nearly three years and it's the best thing I ever did for the car. Get it, you won't regret it.
Is this essentially the clear bra product from the likes of 3M? If so, I heard that this requires replacement every 2-3 years and the effectiveness may vary?
I have a silver car and am looking for a solution as well due to constructions near my neighbourhood.
dealer often charge $1k for clear bra and don't always get the best installer. often, the installer can handle large volume and that's why they are chosen. the reason they can handle large vol is bc the company has many installers. usually best installers form their own company so I'd research on finding a good installer. you'll get a better price and higher quality work.
3m is often used but not always best. as for price, you can get it done for 600 or so.
I've bought some of the 3M material and cut some fender well protectors for my self. Its hard to deal with for sure and the front bumper area would have to be done only by a pro. But the stuff is virtually invisable on a silver or light car. It is very obvious on black or dark colors.
Delirium,
I'm in OC also and about to take possession of my 'new to me' 996 C4.
Please send me the details of the shop who gave you that quote, as that will be one of the first things I'll want to do to mine.
Thanks.
Patrick
My recently purchased 02 C2 had the clear bra installed. The dealer charged the PO $800 for nose. mirrors and hood. You can see the line but that is all.
Paying 300 cash for just front bumper from rick from bodyskins.com (chicago area guy). He's built up a great reputation. Personally I don't like the line on the hood, and with my 996, 85-90% of rock chips occured on the bumper. I feel the rest is overkill. Unless you find someone with tape wide enough to do the whole hood in one piece, i can't stand those lines.
One of the newest children on the car care block is the automotive paint safety film (PPF). The thin polyurethane film or polymer is used by professional auto-detailors or vinyl installation experts to protect the skin mainly against rock chips and small scratches but also UV exposure, deposits of minerals, acid rain and more.
Nonetheless, there is a lot of inaccurate information on paint protective film–some solid and other some inflated, like (crystal for strength) any of the' last and largest' car care items.
I am a big fan of xpel and have on all my cars. However here in the Pacific Northwest it seems the cost. The nose on a car (bumper, hood, fendors, lights, mirrors ) here is between 1500-2200. I think it is dependent on where you live. The prices you are all staying sound real good to me.
