Paul,
Too bad about the deal, I can't believe the ******** tried to "negotiate" that way!
Although I was looking forward to the parts I think it would have been sad to part out such a great looking car. Having said that, if you do sell it I stiil want those parts

Cheers,
Stan

No, bad idea. If I were the other guy I'd be like "excellent, here's the money!" Then I would've paid the dealer to cut a key by VIN #...

Nice try, but you can't cut the key by vin# WITHOUT ownership. How in the world is he supossed to claim ownership if Paul hasn't given the title and the car is still in his garage???

Not so! You said he should say the price is $3k less without a key. I'm suggesting I would take that deal, pay him the money, and take ownership!

Regardless, I was only joking.

What an assclown.

You should have said, 'I think the Ford dealership is down the road, ask Bob for a reference.'

Paul,

Too bad it didnt go through but I am sure the right buyer will come along. Just as in real estate, patience is a character you must have.

That is the sign of a very poor negotiator. I meet morons like that quite often, but I see it coming a lot of the time and stop it prior to critical, usually with a quick pointed comment and cost justifications. At that point, they can either afford or they walk. You did the right thing and he'll probably continue to bug you for a few months about buying the car. Nothing better, than telling someone they can't have what they want..................................

how can all of you jump on a guy for trying to lower a price? is it so wrong? what's the problem w/ trying to pay less???? if you won't try, you won't know, right? yes, there was an earlier agreement on a price, but why SHOULDN'T he try to negotiate one more time? that's why it's called "negotiation"..... it doesn't mean he won't buy it anyway.... he's just trying....

does it really call for such childish behavior as the equivalent of taking back all your toys and going to your own sandbox, by PROHIBITING him from purchasing, even for the agreed-upon price???? LOL... that's a bit silly.

this is some weird elitist bull$hit you have going on here... after all, it's just a tarted up 996 not some classic car. you guys *ARE* aware that they cost less than many many earlier models, right?

I think you missed the key word "agreed" in Paul's initial post. There you go though as usual trying to stir things up in a post. Saw that one a mile away. Now go to time out. No Sandbox activities for you.

i addressed the fact that it was agreed-upon earlier... still does not justify the fact that just b/c he *tried* one more time to save some money, mr. killer acted pretty immaturely. unless you think responding w/ a: "that's it. you've insulted me for the last time. i forbid ye to purchase my fine automobile!!!" is normal behavior....

i cannot even imagine what mr. killer did afterwards. turn around and pompously stomp off towards his house or did he have to push the guy out of his garage so he can authoritatively press a button to shut the garage door? (yep, that'll show him you mean business...) sounds like a bit of theatrics to me, but nice try in defending him anyway.....

I sold my old Miata after getting about 30 calls in week. I had one email reply within 1 ONE uno minute of posting the for sale add. A guy flew up to NJ from Florida after begging me to sell him the car. We agreed on a price and he booked the flight. That afternoon I got a better offer but I told the guy from New Orleans the car had been sold but I would call him if it went sour. Allot of people told me I should have sold to the higher bidder but I didn't think that was right. But I sent the Florida guy an email where I made it VERY CLEAR that I would not be accepting one dime less than what we agreed to. I picked him up at airport and we closed the deal. The guy got in and drove it all the way to Florida within in an hour of getting off the plane! (While he was looking it over a guy stopped in his car to ask how much I wanted)

If he would have tried to give me less money I would simply have said nice try but the car is what we said it would be.

But I agree its a very CHEESY move. Especially if the guy didn't actually bring all the money with him. I sold my first car for $1000 and the buyer shows up flashing $600. I was annoyed but I didn't have a choice because I was 17, broke and in college and hadn't had an offer in weeks. But when I wasn't so broke anymore I got a sweet deal on my 2nd car so I put it behind me. Karma.

p.s. The kid from New Orleans kept calling for weeks tyring to get the new owner's contact info.
Timing is everything.
