That depends a lot on personal preference. I have the clear bra installed (full front lid covered, not just the lower 1/3) and I like it alot. Headlights, side mirrors, front spoilters, and fenders right behind the wheels are also covered too. It's beenn ~1yr now and it looks like new. Mine is silver and it's not visible a few feet away.

I heard the vinyl/leather? black bra will eventaully dull the paint underneath it since any movement will make it rub against the paint.

Contact Premiere. They are in Fremont with mobile service available. A full kit with front bumper, fender caps, mirrors, partial hood is pretty standard. You can also get rockers, door sills and gas cap area as well for a little more. Plan on spending 600-700 for the first pkg, another 100 or so for add'l things. 3M is pretty often used and Premiere uses mostly Venture which is superior with longer warranty. Can't go wrong with a clear bra.

I've seen many vinyl bra with ugly looks and damaged paint. To me, unless you only use the vinyl bra occasionally (which makes the front end vunerable), it's hard to avoid getting paint fades.

leather bras are ugly, and they do **** up your paint because they move and twist, and dirt gets under it and when it moves it scratches the paint.

The prices they charge just to lay on precut plastic film is insane. What's up with that.

If so, there are many places you an buy the material only. If not, be willing to pay the person for there skill. Remember, you are not paying for the actual labor. You are paying for the knowledge of how to do the labor.

If you are interested in a pre-cut kit to install yourself call Performance Films Distributing. They sell many options for most cars and can cut the kit out of 3M or Venture. Ask for Mike Sasala at 800-228-8468.

OJ - First, I'm glad your back! Second, many have posted here that while the type of film is important, most believe that the quality of the work performed by the INSTALLER should be the primary consideration. Great film with a mediocre installer gives mediocre results from an aesthetic standpoint. FYI, Premier Mobile Aesthetics Group (a Rennlist sponsor) has received nothing but EXCELLENT reviews on this forum. You can get to their site by clicking on "sponsors" located at the top right hand side or your screen. Good luck.

Feel free to visit us at www.premiermobilegroup.com for more information about our services.

Our service is directly correlated with pricing....in any service oriented industry. Companies usually producing lower pricing generally does it to gain experience. Those who have much experience under the belt value their services, which is why cost is higher than most. There are bodyshops that could easily paint a 996 bumper for $200-$300..........most rennlisters would gawk at that and would not send his / her car there. There are other bodyshops that would charge $600-$700 for the bumper. What is the real difference? Experience in the craft............we are no different.

Thanks for the plug guys!

Their prices are in line with other "clear bra" installers and much cheaper in the long run than repainting various parts of your car.

I have had a "clear bra" on my 996 since I bought the car. No discoloration. Excellent protection. I would not try to install it on my own. Pay a professional.

Yeh, their pricing is definitely worth it! I've had mine done by them twice already because the first time, my wife did a parallel parking scrape on the nose and the 2nd time some old lady backed her caddy onto my front. They came out and pulled the bra off only to show the paint in pristine condition. Even some of the people doing this for a living (Premier's an exception) don't get it right sometimes so I would definitely not try this yourself.

I'll let you know - I'm having my clearbra replaced with the 3M product next week. I bought the car with 1K miles with the bra already installed - the hood install is awful, but the mirrors, rockers etc. are OK - so going to leave those. My dealer who has removed/installed these previously claims that using heat, removal is easy and shouldn't scuff the finish.

no problems with bra removal at all. Looked as good as it did the first day I put them on.
