New 996 Owner!
Hi gang,
After some gentle prodding from another Rennlister, here's my new (to me) 996. This is my third Porsche with the first two being a 01 Boxster and the 2nd an 03 Boxster S. The paint was in pretty good shape when I took delivery. No dings but a couple of paint chips on the hood. Microscratches everywhere. I spent about 14 hours bringing the paint back. Also refinished all of the "hats" on the brake rotors and repainted the lug bolts. Details:
-2003 996
-7600 miles
Factory Options:
-Leather
-Heated Seats
-Wheel Caps with Colored Crest
-Bose
-Painted Console
-18" Sport Design Wheels
-Aluminum/Chrome X71(Aluminum painted instrument dials) ,X70(Aluminum Door Sills),X54(Stainless Steel Exhaust Tips)
-Deviated Color Seat Stitching
-Litronics
Post-Factory Options:
-B&M Short Shifter
-Clear Sidemarkers.
-Bumper/Door Plugs
-Aluminum Pedals
-Console remote spoiler switch
-Lloyd's Mats
Planned Options
-PSE
-Aluminum Door Pulls/Map pocket covers
-Aluminum Dash Strips
-Aluminum E-brake handle

Wow! This is a really cool group of people.
Thanks everyone!
It seems these days I'm quite astonished when I come across a web forum where everyone is...well... nice. Sure seems like the vast majority of them have one or two self-appointed know-it-alls who just rip on the new people.
Anyway, the paintwork was a whole weekend project. I started detailing years ago and perfected it with a LOT of help from Autopia. Got a hood from the junk yard and learned how to use an orbital and DA buffer. From there, it was a matter of summoning up the nerve to go at the paint with a medium cut cleaner, yellow pad and an orbital buffer. Then the orange pad with a swirl mark remover. Then a black pad with a glaze. THEN, it was ready for wax. The shine isn't about the wax, it's about the surface prep.
Anyway, I'll get some updated photos soon. Thanks again everyone!
