Post Question about Silver color, please help.

The 1996 and 1997 993 and 993 Turbo was available with a bright silver.
Saw one on the week end and it looked hot.

My question is 2 fold.

1. Is it the same color number as the Artic Silver available for the 996?

2. Does anyone know what the color number was for that silver?

To me the 993 silver was much brighter with probably a whiter pigment, the 996 silver seems to have more of a grey pigment.

P.S.
I know that the early 993 models were only available with a silver that had a more blue tinged colour that IS NOT the one I am looking for. I am looking for the one available on the 1997 and 1998 993 which was a bright bright silver.

Thanks.

While my response has absolutly no factual backing, I think 97, 98, and 99 used Polar Silver, where 2001+ used artic silver metallic. Just a guess though....

Arctic Silver has been an option on the 996 and 993 for years. When I ordered my '00 it was a $800 upgrade. Similarly Polar Silver is also an option, albeit more expensive ($3000 ). FWIW I think PS looks better than AS, but I don't think it's worth the price.

My thing is that the Arctic silver on the 993 looks much much brighter than the Arctic Silver on the 996.

Arctic silver is bright silver. When clean and polished, it looks just like the bright silver of the silver wheels.

Polar silver has the bluish tinge to it. At dusk or in the shade, it actually looks like a very light blue, not silver at all. It looks silver in the sunlight.

At one of the DE's, I parked right beside a 993 C4S in Arctic silver. The owner and I both agreed that his 993 Arctic silver seemed to have just a touch more grey, and the 996 a touch of blue, and that the 996 was brighter. A factor may have been the fact that my car was 3 months old, and his was at least 4 years old .

Don't know the numbers, even though I have an AS car. Sorry.

I believe the "standard" silver color(S) offered by Porsche were as follows:

93(or before) to 98 - Polar Silver 92E/A8 or 92M
99 Arctic Silver 92U/X1
00 Arctic Silver 92U/X1
Platinum Metallic 554/T1
PolarSilver 92E/A8/92M
01 Arctic Silver
Meridian Silver 986/X2
02 Arctic Siler
Meridian Silver

This comes from www.paintscratch.com so I could be wrong. And of course, Porsche had expensive optional colors as well. I think polar Silver becaume a $3K option in 02 or 01.

The Polar Silver has the bluish silver look
The Arctic silver looks more "silvery"
The Meridian Silver has a goldish tint to it

98 onward Artic Silver was the standard color. (I ordered a 98 C2s and they wanted a few thousand to order Polar, I went with the standard, Artic). The color code on the touch up paint for the 98 is the same as my 00 artic silver cab.
