Oil pressure at track
referencing this thread
https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...pressure+track
here's the deal:
'99 996
Victoracer tires
in turns - pressure drops to 1-1.5 BAR
back straight of Road Atlanta - oil pressure doesn't rise aboe 3.5 Bar
normal street driving - oil pressure gauge maxes out.
is the lower oil pressures on track a result of higher oil temperatures or is this a genuine problem? i am considering the BK oil pan upgrade to resolve this.

The only thing it could be is oil starvation if your presure is dropping at RPM down to that level. Evene oil temps of 260F won't produce that low of a pressure with engine above 4,000 rpms. Are you running Mobil Water (0W40) in the crankcase?

oil is mobil 1 0-40, correct. but driving down the back straight of road atlanta, i am full throttle through gears 2-5, oil pressure remaining a constant 3-3.5, even at 7200 rpms

If you are not starvingthe engine, you might check the oil sending unit. Here is the norm for oil pressure:
Cold engine all engine speeds: 5 bar
Warm engine idle: 2 bar+
Any engine speed above 3,000: 4 bar+
Regardless of what my oil pressure read, I would never track using less than a 15W50 oil.

interesting....yet i live in the south where the weather is usually quite warm. i read through several oil threads and couldn't come to a good conclusion about what oil to use when tracking. too many differing opinions from ppl in various parts of the country = indecisive.
also, when car is HOT, idle pressure reads at or below 1 bar

I had low pressure readings when using M1 0W-40. I've since switched to 15W-50 and everything has been normal. I have some buddies that have MY2K 996s and their pressures don't seem to be affected as negatively by the 0W-40.

here's what i have: MY01 cab. tip. 40K+miles.
warm idle: 1.5 bar.
i live in north east. plan to do oil change twice a year.
April: 15W50
Oct.: 0W40
is this a good plan?

pl.....that is my schedule so it I am runnning 15W-50 in the warm months track season.
October-->March 0W-40
March-->October 15W-50 (warmer part of the year and track season)

This thing about the oil pressure dropping around turns has me intrigued from previous posts. Almost killed myself at a few hairpin turns trying to see . I can honestly say I've never seen it on my car, either street tires or r-Compounds (not slicks). There have been fluctuations with rpm, but not like down there at 1-1.5 despite revving as in exiting. 90+ degree temps at VIR back straight, 4.5-5 bar. Oil is 0W-40 Mobi 1.
Don't know what's normal or what's not, to be honest. But, it sounds like your pressure may be low on hard driving penguinking.
