Post Valentine One remote mount location

I just posted this on the turbo board, but since the interior layout is basically the same in all the 996's, maybe someone here would have some feedback or experience:

"I just took delivery this week of a '02 996TT and bought a V1 with remote display to install in the car. I have searched for a good location to mount the concealed display and have come up with the top/center of the steering column as the best spot for placement. The only problem is that it slightly obscures the row of warning lights. Has anyone found a better spot? (The center console storage area seems too low and too far off to the side)"

Nice car John!
How did you hard wire your V1? The cigarette adapter doesn't fit well into the 996's lighter slot.

Thanks, CKL93. I have not hard wired the V1 yet, that will be one of my weekend projects. I am going to look for a switched power source first. After using the V1 for a day without the hard wire and remote display - it's not so bad. I may just use it like that.

I have a standard 996 and so I don't know if it's the same for a TT but in my car, right between the venter console and the bottom tray, there is a piece of plastic shaped like a bat, I popped that out, took a dremmel and made an opening just big enough to put in the "front" part of the V1 remote display. I hard wired the think by taking power from the radio (I wanted to always the leave the thing on and have it switch on and off like the radio) and I ran a wire from there to the V1 by removing the A pillar trim on the passenger side and exiting right in the mount of the passenger sun visor. If you're interested, e-mail me at j_rotsaert@hotmail.com and I can can give you my phone number and give you pointers.

Have mine mounted in the bottom open bin under the CD storage slots. Wire runs from there to near the rear view mirror where I mount the unit (when I am not in VA of course). While it is out of direct sight, it seems as inconspicuous there as possible and with the clear read out arrows easy to interpret.

There is a fabulous link in faq with pics as to how to do all the wiring.
