RADAR CHOICE
Does anybody know if you can use the laser jammer in conjunction with the V1?
What's the real deal with jammers such as the Lidatek anyway? Do they REALLY work?
Any real world experiences out there?

the only laser jammer "shifter" that actually worked good was the passport one, and it does come as a stand alone as well, check out the radartest.com if you want to see some real world tests and not "manufactures" or "magazines paid by manufactures"
Watt,
The SRX takes about 8-10 hours for installation.
I took mine to a VW dealer, they took 10 hrs $1500 (SRX+install). It is a permanent install. you cannot change cars.
LanceK,
If your friendly local PD uses laser to get even friendlier and mor personal with you, then a laser jammer is invaluable. Laser is so quick that a simple detector will not give you enough time to slow down, if you jamm it on the other hand...

NiveK,
That is not true. Many owners on the bmwm5.com board have gotten great results with the Lidatek LE-20.
Craig Peterson, the author of the radartest.com test, is known to be very biased and is not well liked from within his industry. Also, remember that they tested the LE-20 with only 1 transponder to protect a Chevy Suburban! Lidatek strongly recommends a 2 transponder setup, so this without a doubt would have made a huge difference.
I think the V1 and Lidatek combo is the best protection you can get. The directional arrows on the V1 are priceless...

actually hamman7 i have tested most of them myself and i can confirm that the lidatek does not do very well here in TX, i work with and in law enforcement and i get to do allll kinds of neat little things including testing software and hardware in diffrent types of scenarios
lancek ,
i did all the research, lidatek is outstanding and the best. look back thru old threads on 996turbo and you will see a good discussion.
i pass the same santa monica cop w/ laser every morning, and yes they get a no signal when you jam them. but after a week or two, i figured he would associate no signal with my gt2..... and they're illegal in CA... and it would go downhill from there.... but most of you don't have that problem. but for the rest of PCH where you can get hammered w/o notice, lidatek is the man.

Most people I know have said that Passport is NOT as good as V1.
Personally I chose the K40 stealth install unit. If I had it to do over again, I would get a V1.

Have 2 V1s, K40 and a 8500. I put the 8500 back in the box. I like the V1 better than anything else. The directional and number on the V1 helps you weed out false alarms. I also cannot hear 8500 over stereo. K40 is okay, but I usually keep a V1 in the car also on longer trips due to range.
I have a K40 in my 996 and a 8500 that I use between our other two cars. I've also owned a V1 in the past. At the moment I believe the 8500 to be the best of the units although I honestly think either the 8500 or the V1 would be a great choice. Although the K40 has done it's job I've had problems with it and wouldn't spend the money to install another one.
