XM Radio in a cab

XM Radio in a cab
Santa delivered an XM radio for my '99 cab, just what I wanted. Now the question is, where do I put the antenna?
Anybody have XM in a cab, and if so, where did you put the antenna? On top of dash, in between the pop-up rollbars, or where?
BTW, I use the hardtop about 3 months out of the year, so that reduces my flexibility somewhat.

I've seen a Cab with the antenna on the boot cover. Personally, I have an XM compatible stereo in my Cab and I'm waiting for them to come out with a better looking antenna, or one that mounts inside the windshield...call me vain.

Carlos, I take it you haven't tried it yet. You'll need several hours to go thru Most of the channels. I don't have it in my P-cars, but suggest call a few Dealers( both Porsche & XM ) to find out where they're putting them for Cabs!
Nice change from the AM/FM, except when your on roads with hills right along side you.
Enjoy

I recently had installed a Pioneer XM radio system into my 01 C2 Cab and it worked out quite nicely. The antenna (Sony) is smaller than a mouse and mounts on the dash in the front windshield. Looks great there - and for about a month I haven't had a single reception problem. I love XM and highly recommend it. I would definitely get either an XM ready head unit (radio) or at least something that has Aux inputs. I wouldn't run it through the FM radio - but that's me.

Don't know what XM stands for - but it is basically the most popular Satellite radio provider. A receiver, remote and small antenna get installed into your car and connected to your main reveicer - and voila - 100 stations (101 if you are adventurous enough to order Playboy for your car....) - of (almost) commercial free digital radio. It's very cool. If you want to check it out, go to their site www.xmradio.com where you can even listen in to check out some of the stations. Sounds almost as good as CD.

Thanks for the replies, guys. Marcel's answer seems like the best way to me: put the antenna on the dash, as far forward as possible.
I'll give that a try and report back on the results.

What I understand from the website of XM radio is that it doesnt broadcast into our area.. though we need it more than you guys do over your side of the planet; the only radio station here plays 60% local music and no offence really, but you really dont want to listen to a Yoruba talking drum and a group of Oyo singers doing 150mph in a 996..
With all respect, really..

*the other 40% airtime is adverts, 'kelly i love you..' and heavy rap.., bummer *

My cab has XM and was installed by the previous owner. I didn't think I'd ever consider it, but now having it for almost a month, I'm sold. My wife even wants it in her Lexus.
I don't have any idea where the antenna is, I just assumed it used the one inside the windshield like the standard radio. I'll poke around a bit and report if I find something.

I just had a Kenwood double din nav unit installed. They placed both the Sirius and GPS antenna in the same place. They've hidden all the antennas in all 4 of our cars. In my 928, they put it in the 3rd brake light housing. I haven't noticed any issue with reception.
