Post Fabspeed Exhaust

Is it worth replacing the factory exhaust with fabspeed exhaust?

I've had Fabspeeds on my last 4 Pcars and they are easy to install, relatively inexpensive and save between 40 and 50 lbs over stock. Fabspeed website www.fabspeed.com has a sound clipof stock exhaust and Fabspeed exhaust which is pretty accurate.

I know there are other aftermarket systems, but I've had good luck with Fabspeeds.

BTW, IMHO don't look for hp/tq gains...just a much better sounds.

I'm assuming you have the stock exhaust system

Just my $.02

Fadzy,

Cornering a 20hp-Kart while you're only 3inches above the ground at 18,000rpm at *ONLY* 100mph is as exhilarating as doing 200mph in a Zonda..

Exhausts are all about sensations.. You might gain about 5hp or so.. but not notice it. Surely you will notice the sound and will surely be able to communicate with your engine much more.

Since you have the CS4, I would like to ask 996-listers if there is any upgrade on the suspension.. I dont think you need to upgrade your beefy ceramic brakes!

Go for it! And make sure it's done by a pro otherwise welcome the Check Engine light now and then...

Regarding the FAbspeed exhaust....
Did you fit it yourself.??.because I heard a few of the U.S. users do. If not how much was it to install. How difficult is it??
As for the warranty, well in the U.S. apparently the FAbspeed system doesnt invalidate it over there.
I suppose it should be possible to get an Official Porsche centre to fit one. (After all they fitted my Tech Art lowering kit)

PeterPeter, if you're asking me, I installed mine on my 964s and my 993 but not the 996. The ones I installed myself was very easy. The unit just hung on the same fixture as the stock mufflers. I had the 996 installed, but did not have to pay for it because Joe F. from Fabspeed used my car to measure for the 02 tips. It looked like a very simple installation though, similar to the earlier years. If I could do it myself, then anyone can!

I just installed mine at midnight last night in 30F weather. Yes, I know I have a problem. I like the way it sounds so far. It is a nice deep rumble. I haven't had a chance to drive it because I don't like getting it filthy in the salt and snow, but the reving in my garage sounds awesome. It took me about 21/2 hours to install myself. The old exhaust drops right out and the Fabspeeds slide right in. Make sure you tighten the tips before you replace though. Let me know if you have any more installation questions because it is fresh in my head. I will make another post when I finally get to hear it on the road.

Don, have you ever heard a car with the Fabspeed headers?

Looking under the car, they would be so easy to change. Can anybody share there experiences with them?

The fabs do come with instructions, but it is also a very straight forward procedure. Go to www.p-car.com , they have a good DIY page on the entire exhaust install. My personal best on a 996 exhaust install is 1'10", it's that easy!

Sicaone, I've not heard the fabspeed mufflers w/their headers. Didn't want to fool with the intake system.

Exclamation

Fyi-

Check the Fabspeed web site for information and MP3 downloadable soundfile/s (compare to stock OEM muffler):

http://www.fabspeed.com/

***I'm very pleased with my upgrade to the Fabspeed exhaust muffler product***:

-T304SS

-Lighter (and better lookin' than the OEM part, see above posts)

-Fit & finish are superb (4 bolt replacement/polished stainless steel (mirror) product finish you can just see thru the back wheel well)!

-Local Porsche dealer charged me $70/hr X 2 hours (done carefully, first time install of this particular system for my specific Porsche Dealership and service took care with adjustment of my chrome oval tips "to make sure they got it right"...)

-Porsche warranty not compromised according to
Dealer who DID the install!

- +/- Hp (8-10?) gain (Dyno on Fabspeed web site)
I'm not sure but my exhaust note (sound)was improved;
need several more easy break-in miles...

I don't think so. The hotterit gets the sooner the "new" odor goes away!
