Post Lights Issues...

Hello,
I'm having problems with the lights and there it goes, hope anyone can give me feedback:

1)I guess my problem about the reverse lights not working is officially permanent. They used to sometimes light, now they dont do anymore. I hope the switch is easily accessible?

I attach below a picture of the rear lights:

2) the problem is that all the lights are working but if I switch off everything, both the left-front & left-rear('D') dim bulbs stay on *picture shows light 'D' is on* Is this problem possible to solve?

3) Is bulb 'D' the only one to be lit when i switch the lights on? And what are the other ones supposed to be for? (obviously 'a' & 'f' are known)

Thanks,

Wael

Waz, only thing I can think of is to make sure your directional signal lever is in neutral position. If not, signal lights will stay on even tho key is out of ignition.

thanks Don, but that's not the problem with me.. It's the red lights 'd' that are always lit..

Try pushing the light switch " IN " on the dash

You were actually doing 266 KPH? I hate you ...( That envy, not really hate )

Thanks Tom,

Still the lights are always lit, only on the right side!! Wonder why..

Dunno about the reverse light, also.. is the switch accessible?

After 250 it's no fun really, i'd rather be doing slower speeds with more gearchanges, challenging curves and bends, sort of alpine roads (no mountains here!).. So I might end up hating you should you have such over your side of the world!

'D' are the street parking lights. I know in England you have to have lights on the right side of your car on at night if you are parking on the street (at least you used to).

Since the 996 light switch allows you to turn on the left or right side, I must assume that your 'off' position is now contacting the 'right parking light' position. That makes some sense as the right parking light on position is next to the headlight switch off position. You know, the only thing that keeps you from turning your headlight switch counter-clockwise past the off position is a lockout that requires you to pull out on the headlight switch. If the lockout were worn or broken, you could turn you headlight switch past the off position to a parking light position without even knowing.

Thanks Kerry for reply..

I understand, though my side-parking lock is really preventing the **** from going anti-clockwise again, meaning it is not broken. There must be an electrical connection fault then from the **** itself.

Ok, please can you tell me which one bulb is for the rear-night-light? And which one is for brake-light? Is there a rear-fog light bulb?

B, C, E ??

Moreover, do you know where the reverse-light switch is located? My reverse light doesnt work (and bulbs are ok)

(Kerry puts on coat to play with his Porsche outside )
Here's how my lights work.
A: Turn signals and hazard flasher
B & D always come on together. All four light when you turn your headlight switch any position clockwise. A pair also come on when you turn the headlight switch counter-clockwise for the left or right side lighting but this only works if your ignition is off.
C: A reflector, not a light
E: Brake light.
F: Reverse light. Won't come on if ignition is off.
Turning on fog lights doesn't change any of the rear lighting.

Don't know about that pesky reverse light switch, I'll look in the service manuals.

Kerry,

Actually Santa wears body-glove pastel pink swimming wear when he passes over our area here.. No need for a coat here when i go out!

Following your post, I have noticed that bulb 'B' does not light.. The mistery is starting to be evident now.

We have mountains in New York, but the best ones are at Watkins Glenn, I can do about 140 MPH on the back straight.
I have a picture of the tranny with the backup switch, I Cant show the picture here, try this URL ( # 1 is the switch)

<a href="http://www.996c2.com/tech/backupswitch.pdf" target="_blank">Backup switch location / 996 c2</a>

OK Tom, so i'll check on the switch connection, seems it is accessible from under.. Thanks a million!

BTW, I'd rather be doing supersonic somewhere safer.. I remember it's fixedwing who's given me a bit of a spank when he read i was doing such in the open roads here.. guess he's somehow right.. but again, i take every single precaution.
