OK, i took the plunge. Half the songs sound tinny and crappy through the headphones=which sound fine through the laptop, with the same song playing............BUT, you cannot do this sequentially...........got it??????????????????????????????????I have reloaded software on laptop, connected and charged battery???????????
WTF?? BTW, it is a new video rig....=i do not know how to put video on it?
THANKSSSSSSSSSS
Steve
HOLY CRAP!!!! What in the world did you just say? Reading your post sounds alot like Charlie Brown's teacher. How many cocktails have you knocked back tonight?
Steve - slow down and breathe man. I assume you got a new photo Ipod, correct? I have the same one. It is true that the stock headphones sound pretty crappy, some noise-cancelling ones will do the trick and be small for around $100. For around $200 the Bose ones sound AMAZING.
As for the photos and videos, you have to install the IPod software that came with your unit so that the Itunes knows it is a photo IPod, then point ITunes to the directory where you will store your pics on the PC. That way, when you add or remove pics, your ipod will sync with it.
If this was not what you were asking, please disregard my off topic rambling.
If the EQ settings are your laptop soundcard are different than the EQ settings on the iPod then this could be the reason for the change in sound from the laptop vs. iPod. Change the EQ settings on the iPod to meet your taste.
Sorry about the rant. I hate it when small things kick my butt, especially expensive small things that make my workouts so much easier. Let me try this again.
Translation:
I have a new video IPOD.
I have 65 days worth of music on it. It worked fine two weeks ago.
I am using non apple headphones that work fine when connected directly to laptop=they are good
I can listen to a song through (connected to) the laptop.
When I plug the headphones directly through the mini plug on the top, when playing the same song, the sound becomes "tinny" "buzzy" and distorted.
I have been to apple website=useless.
I have adjusted EQ setting=no improvement.
I reinstalled the computer software and synchronized/updated several times.
I figured that a group of people who routinely disassemble sophisticated sports cars might come up with some ideas before I send it in for repair.
Thanks in advance for your advice.
Steve
Do you have the "sound check" turned on? If so, turn it off.
If you wiggle the jack in the iPod does it make noise in the headphones? If so, replace the iPod (assuming it doesn't make noise in the computer's input).
This awful distortion is only with about half the songs??????
In one scenario I have the song duplicated=X2, and the first file sounds horrible, the next (same song) is fine???
Hummmm.... Got me. And I thought I was pretty good at iPods. Maybe its the source. Are these all iTunes files? Without seeing the unit, I can't help. Maybe go to the Apple store and see what they say.
Maybe the bit rate that you sampled the song varies significantly between the songs that sound good and those that sound distorted. Check the info for the songs and check the bit rate. I think that might be the answer. I had that problem and didn'trealize it. So I went back and reuploaded some songs with the same better bit rate.
Have you used the iPod Updater "Restore" feature to completely reformat and clean the HD on the iPod and then reloaded all the songs by synching? I would do this to attempt to eliminate corrupted files on the iPod (b/c you said all the songs work correctly when playing them on the laptop correct?).
Look at the 3rd party software like PodPlus (successor to iPod Agent) to get the songs from your iPod to a computer so you can "Restore" it. Here is a link http://www.ipodsoft.com/index.php?/software/podplus (I have not used PodPlus but have helped a couple people use iPod Agent)
Also check out the iPod Lounge forums for more suggestions and software. If you have known problem it will be discussed at iPod Lounge. Be fore warned thought that the iPod Lounge has a lot of fluff and crap to weed through to find good help, however, great technical advice can be found.
