Default Best Time to Buy a Cab?

So what is the best time of the year to buy a cab? Popular belief says at the end of the summer when people trade their cabs in. However, wouldn't the logic be to wait if you are a seller until the spring when demand for cabs is bigger and hence you can get a better price?

All in all, have you seen a delta in pricing in spring versus fall/winter? I'm in the market for a 2002/2003 Cab.

I would say winter, when the demand for them is low. BUT if you look in place like SoCal where weather is good most of the year, there may not be a best time.

Here in the Northeast, at the end of January or February from a dealer, especially if it has been very cold and snowy. Dealers are looking to make their sales numbers and those are tough months for Porsches, either new or used. Private party sales in the winter are also usually real slow.

In the dead of winter, at the end of a month, right after a snow storm-from the northeast.

RIGHT NOW!!!! Key is to always be on the look out and when you come across one you love that checks out and clean, cut the check and start enjoying the top down ecstacy.
Question is...how long can you go without having a cab in your life!?!

I think the best time in an area with snowy winters would be in the winter, close to X'mas, towards the end of the month, right after a snow storm. The logic is that:

1) new model year cars are usually released in the fall so all unsold cars just got a year older;
2) everybody is thinking about buying gifts around the holidays, not spending money on a new car;
3) conventional wisdom is snow and ice and convertibles just don't mix;
4) dealers stuck with inventory over winter know that sales will not pick up until at least after the holidays (probably spring for cabrios) and will have to carry the interest a few more months.

If you can find a car that has been sitting unsold for a few months, so much the better.

Just my $0.02

Yes now...sooner the better. Is it worth it to lose another beautiful summer just to save maybe $1K or so?! I guess it depends on whats a priority to you. I bought mine last June, peak season for cabs...but was able to get a deal i felt was more than fair and was able to enjoy driving top down till November. Could I have waited till end of the year with car dealer quotas to meet and private owners trying to liquidate for the holidays?? Sure, but why?

I couldn't agree more. I got my 2001 C2 Cab almost exactly a year ago after looking (autotrader, kbb) for about six months. The key is that given the relative shallowness of this used car market (i.e. for a specific variant of a relatively rare make/model), you will probably need to look for a while to find one that best fits your criteria. If you were looking for a Taurus or Corolla, you could consider the monthly pricing patterns as there would always be plenty acceptable cars to choose from.
Your cab might be available now - why wait?

I'd agree with the "now" thing.. or at least you have to start LOOKING now. It can take a while to find something. I'm not sure that it makes so much difference anymore in terms of season as there are so many people buying cars online.. it evens things out a bit as it's always sunny somewhere.

Best time is when the price is right.
Make sure you get the car with the options and color you want.
