Default New to Boards, purchasing 996

Hey guys,
I have an 03 Boxster, and have just decided to join the big boys and buy a 99 Carrera, I was really looking for a 993 but have had little luck finding right one, and ones that were close to my ideal are on west coast, I am east coast.

I found what I think is a good car with a new engine replaced by Porsche in June of 2004, hopefully well past the bad engine era. It is also a tip further reducing pressure on the fabled main seal.... (i hope) Car has a bit over 40K with over 10k on new engine. I used it for my avatar, it goes for PPI today.... Any opinions? Anything to look out for?

Hughie,

I would say if the PPI comes back clean and you are happy with it...congrats and welcome aboard. My personal criterias for purchasing a 996 would be the options available for the MY99 that you are willing to accept. MY99 came with the traction control (PSM) option which I would recommend. Ask for receipts and service history, do some due diligence and research the history of the car.

I just did the switch from a 2000 Boxster to a 2002 996 Cab less than a month ago. You will love it. The PPI is the best thing that you can do, also make sure it has a clean carfax report. There will be times that you feel like your are in the Boxster until you hit the gas then you are reminded where you are. Great choice in color. Good luck and enjoy!

Just wanted to add a slight correction. The 99s came with Traction Control (which is NOT PSM). The 99s with Traction Control also came with limited-slip differentials which is a very desirable option that could only be had on the 99s! (At least until 04 or the 40th AE or something like that)

Thanks guys, it doesn't have traction control, but it does have my fav rims as well as sport exhaust. I hope the PPI goes well because looking for a good car is a major PAIN....

My fiance is going to learn how to drive stick and she will be sporting the Boxster now. That should be interesting. I think it will be fun to have a choice of Porsches to drive.

Well thanks for all the kind words, and I'll let you know how the inspection goes.
