Hey. Lurking more and more these days and need some advice.
There are 2 cars I'm 'eyeballing' and both for about the same money give or take 2k. The 2000 has less miles and black interior but the 2002 has the larger motor but higher mileage.
I'm leaning towards the 2002 since it's not my daily driver. Thoughts? TIA...

Are either CPO or are they private party with no warranty? Just something to factor in. As for the miles, at that point (50 v 70) there really isn't any difference. I would go with the 02 being newer so you have the larger motor, increased torsional rigidity, facelift, etc, etc, etc,.......

i'd spend more and get a lower mileage car. how someone put on 70k in 4 yrs on a 02 is beyond me. That person much drive it everywhere which concerns me how the car is generally treated.
if you had to choose the two, i'd base the purchase based on the condition of the cars. if two are equal in condition, i'd choose the 02 bc of many benefits and you will eventually have a better resale value if you ever trade it. definitely have both compression tested when doing PPI. Also look up warranty history for RMS repair. Clutch and brake are probly in need or replacement on both cars.

Seriously fellas, you complain if the car has too few miles and then you complain if it has to many. This is a lose-lose situation.
He asked about 2 cars, and for a car (the 02) to be driven 15-17K a year is not that much. We do NOT know the history yet on either car. Personally, I would take the 02 following the advice of most here on teh board........get the NEWEST car you can afford.
However, I would still look around more (if cost is not as much a factor) to find something with fewer miles and CPO'ed. It shouldn't be hard to find a CPO'ed 02 with 40K miles for in the low 50's range.

In about two weeks I will have owned my '04 996 for one year. I have driven it 17,350 miles in 12 months. Two more years like that will equal +52K miles driven by me in three years, then add the 6,450 miles that were on the clock when I bought it and you are pushing 59K miles in four years. I can see someone getting 70K easily if it is a daily driver. So what do I do??? Park mine in the garage during all of the months that have an "R" in the month name (like eating oysters)?... or drive only in odd numbered months.? WTF!?!?!

That's just ridiculous. I've seen cars with 80000 miles that looked nicer and drove better than one with half that. Mileage is an indicator of the car's condition, but certainly isnt a reason to discount a car, 70xxx miles is hardly all miled out.

If difficult to decide then I would go for the later 02 model
