The carrera spoiler requires a whole new engine cover. Hence, partly, the $3k price for the whole thing from a Porsche dealer. Look at the PCNA site for a clear picture.

I have the carrera spoiler on my car and without going out to look at it I am pretty sure it has a whole different cover with a different cooling fan, porsche script trim peice that replaces the rear tail light(since the spoiler has the light intergrated. I would be happy to look if someone has the part numbers and says I am wrong.

Did you get the wing aftermarket or is it a Porsche tequipment part. It looks like to me the genuine Porsche carrera wing is a new deck lid that you just bolt in, but the aftermarket wings like from Getty Design or MA Shaw looks like you just take out the pop up spoiler and replace the fixed carrera wing in place of it.

The wing on the Porsche website is a different style than the one in your picture. I suspect that as part of the '02 facelift, they changed the rear wing.

I have the factory genuine Porsche carrera rear spoiler and after closely examining it I can say that it is unquestionably not bolted into a hole in the engine cover left after removing the stock spoiler. It is attached to a base which is integrated into the engine cover. This base is vented and has a cooling fan attached to it under- neath. It also has an air intake gasket which connects to the engine air intake when the cover is closed.

I have the factory installation documentation.
The "Carrera" rear spoiler like the one in Darren's picture IS bolted on. It is part number 996 512 903 00 G2X.
The original Aerokit spoiler (old GT3 style) and new Aerokit II (new GT3 style) both replace the whole deck lid.
