Where the hell did you take it? The best hot rod shops would only charge $350 to repair that. Did you go to the dealer or something?

I had two estimates, both were just about the same. I not sure how you can make that statement without having seen the damage.

There's actually some minor paint damage to the bumper as well, but I'm not having them repaint the bumper, just put some touch up paint on it.

If that estimate includes repairing the curb rash then maybe it's not so bad (actually then its pretty good), but even if someone took a hammer to your quarter panel, it wouldn't be more than $400 or so to repair it (unless they broke through the metal). Maybe they see Porsche and they see dollar signs.
Where on the bumper is the scratch. I'm assuimg it's near the dent, no? I would think they'd be blending onto that anyways, and wouldn't need to go the touchup paint route (though even if they do, no big, what a competent shop can do with touchup paint is amazing).

EDIT: oh wait, you're in NY. Not sure where Monroe is, but if it's near one of the major cities then it's probably a decent price. Labor intensive work is a lot more money up north.

I'm just outside of NYC, I actually commute there daily, and yes the price of everything is much higher. Manhattan Motor Cars gets $165/hr labor rate.

Riad, I feel your pain. But after a while, it's not really pain, it's just a pain in the ****. Since I park on the streets in NYC when I go out at night, I always have a little love hug on the bumpers when people park and tap. I don't mind that so much since the bumpers are plastic and I usually repaint them every couple of years and it generally looks flawless (Pepe Porsche directed me to some shop in Ossining that does phenomenal work).

So anyway, I'm dropping my car off at the garage in my building last night, open the trunk to grab some parcels, close it, and under the fluorescent (all revealing) light, I noticed a minor scratch about 4 inches long right on the hood. I nearly passed a kidney stone. But following the sage advice here, I breathed deep, counted to three, and inspected it more closely. It's mostly in the clearcoat and I think/hope that some rubbing compound and a good going over with Zaino will fix it.

My goodness, we P-car drivers are a crazy bunch, eh? Reminds me of when I would get brand new white sneakers as a kid and walk around as gingerly as I could so as to avoid a stain. Nuts. Plain nuts.

This is why I'm glad mine came with plenty of rock chips. Its used, the paint is no longer perfect...so I'm always in DILYSI mode and park wherever is convenient.

Normal rock chip marks don't bother me, mine's got em. It's a 2004 with 36,000+ miles on it, it's going to have chips, but this was an ugly dent down to the metal.

I've get the perfect parking spot for you. Right by COSTCO, just beside that 1970's two door road yacht, whose door is bigger than the 911, driven by a drunk. .

C'mon, gravedgr. I can believe not feeling bad about rock chips. MY driving put them there. I don't have a "bra" and never will. But, unless you've got a 911 with rusting side panels, you've got to feel a little stab in the gut if you see an obvious dimple in the middle of a panel.

I am sooooo glad my P is a facelifted 99 996...because if it were any newer and got dings, it would bother me much more! I was thinking about this the other day when I saw the first ding ...the car who did it left already oherwise i would have kicked a huge dent in his door!

No matter how old or new the car it's still annoying. Someone who was careless damaged your property!

However, I try to put it all in perspective. I live in one of the most densely populated parts of the country, and I drive her everyday into one of the largest cities in the world - one little ding in 2 years is the price of admission.
