FWIW, the 996 GT3 was always heavier than the 2WD Carrera by a wee bit.

2000 ROW 996 GT3: 1350 kg / 2976 lb
2000 ROW 996 Carrera: 1320 kg / 2910 lb

Porsche chose to keep some of the creature comforts in this one in contrast to the deletions of the previous RS versions.

Hi Mike, how's it going? Have fun at Thunderhill. I hope to be back down there this spring.

As far as a choice between a GT2 and Modena, if someone was giving me one of the cars, I'd go for the GT2. It's just too wickedly fast, for me too choose the Modena, even though I love the looks of the 360.

If I were spending my own money, for $200,000 I'd buy a 'standard' 996 TT and one of the new Viper SRT-10 convertables.

I think there are a lot of crack smokers here. The GT2 obliterates the 360. I mean, it is not even close. Yes., I've driven them both and I went for the GT2. Drive them both for an hour on the street or the track and then try to argue the other way...

Moreover, with the exception of the heavy clutch, the statements that the GT2 is not street friendly are VASTLY overstated.

The GT2 is best compared to the F40, not the Modena. And BTW, the GT2 gets just as much attention as a 360. Besides, if its attention you want, buy a Lambo, or hell a reproduction that just looks like a Lambo. Then you can lean on it and look cool. Meanwhile GT2's will just set lap records at the Ring...

In all honesty, comparing the GT2 to the 360 is not fair. The GT2 is faster, tougher, more fun to drive, fully driver adjustable, far far far more rare, and you can beat the sh#t out of it all day and come back for more. I also think it looks about a million times better. Now, the 355 is another matter...

And as for the Denise Richards argument... Have you seen the two cars side by side?

And as for all this rot about various 996TT's and how they're better than a GT2... please. A better daily driver? I know which one I'd rather drive every day. Get a Merc, or an M5, or a Lexus if you really want to win the daily driver arguement.

The GT2 is an awesome, awesome machine. It is a turbo charged GT3 and then some. And twenty years from now when you line up the more than 5000 360's that will have been produced and put them next to the less than 200 GT2s I wonder which ones will be considered classics...

Ditto to Deanger's comments and looking forward to seeing you again at Thunderhill Jim-how's everything going and all? I'm going again Sept20/22(Thunderhill) and another one in Dec(Laguna Seca) so I'm wating til my 996 blows and engine so I can get a GT2 . I was at the dealership today getting Pagid pads plus SS lines and bleeding them with ATE Super Blue and salivating over the GT2(silver/black) in the showroom. I think if it was Speed yellow/black interior it would have been very difficult not to sign the dotted line. The GT2 is a freaking animal IMO. Regards. Mike

I´m with Deanger in everything he said except for the fact that I think that the 966TT is better for the streets not because it may be a bit more confortable (who cares about that), but because in the streets you can probably go faster with the 996TT than the GT2 unless your Walter Rohrl. Now, in the track, the GT2 is at the very top of the food chain.

Tough tough decision. It would be nice to be able to make that decision. Here is one for you to Ponder>

There is one guy that Clubraces a 1997 993 Supercup car that also has a 360 Spider, silver GT2, and a tangerine orange Lamborghini Murcelago. Brought 3 of the 4 cars to Lime Rock.

Nice guy and awesome small part of his collection.

For me I would like another convertible......so make mine a 360 Modena Spider 6spd RED , tan leather/black contrasting leather with red sticking, carbon seats, RED convertible top.

The GT2 for the track car in B stock would be pure "Carpet-bombing" for everyone in B.

If I was to buy a 360 Modena I'd choose the 6 speed spider but even then I won't because the GT-2 is my ultimate machine. I thought my targa looked good until I parked it next to a maritime blue GT-2, i thought I stepped off an SUV Not alot of cars can make the targa look like the younger geeky sister with braces and zits

Dude, I think YOU are the one who needs to step back from the pipe

Its a FERRARI, one of the world's greatest cars and marqees. I'm sure the GT2 is nice and all, but a Ferrari it is not.

Modena spyder! The GT2 just looks like a 911 with a body kit. At least it doesn't come with a tiptronic...

I agree a FERRARI is very nice... to look at. And a 360 SPYDER is an awesome machine..to look at. And even to drive fast once and a while so long as you don't want to go fast for more than about 25 minutes. I truly wish I had one to go with the GT2. When it comes to a convertible, Ferraris are the sexiest. However, as much as I might get a kick out of cruising around town and stopping to pose on my car, I'm more the stealth bomber type. So when something comes blasting by you one day in your 360 and disappears before you know what hit you... take a second look... it might have been a GT2

BTW - Am I the only one who actually thinks a 355 looks better than a 360?. Both are nice, but the 355 is bellisima.

Deanger, I agree with you that the 355 is much more beautiful to look at then the 360. The 360 is the better performing car though and having driven F1 versions of both I think that 360 is miles ahead in terms of stability and performance. Still take a GT-2 over both though no matter how sexy the Ferrari is

If I had the money for a GT2 or Modena I would pick up a low mileage 996TT and use the balance plus maybe $5-15K to pick up a 355 Spider (Deanger - I agree with you - a 355 is much better looking. Looks more like a "Ferrari", while the 360 is also gorgeous but looks like a matchbox fantasy car).

If I want something for the track I would buy a Ducati 998 or a Yamaha R6...there's just somethinng about a bike vs. a car on the track...maybe the feeling of dragging your knee on the asphalt at 100 mph

My $0.02

Just saw an interesting video where the 996 twin turbo (admittedly not GT2) was compared directly against the 360 Modena. The drivers utilised in the testing were professional race car drivers.

The unanimous decision was that the 996 Twin was superior to the 360 Modena in all tests (acceleration, slalom, skid pan/G force, braking and even head to head on the track).

But what was far more interesting was the fact that they decided to throw in a current generation Nissan Skyline GTR Nismo R spec, and that darn car beat the 996 twin turbo on the twisties and on the straight!!!!

So, if I am looking for a track car (forgetting about emotions, sex appeal, stud value etc)...I think I would place my money with Nissan...and I can still easily fit two adults in the back!

Cheers

Being a Porsche fan, I think a GT2 is nice but I couldn't stand the fact that Porsche made so much money on me. I'd feel like I took a sucker punch from the marketing department.

I would take the Modena with a few Ferrari Challenge car parts installed.

Harold- I saw a video as well with a 360 modena/996 tt and Skyline GTR(not sure whether it's nismo or not) but Skyline was whipped on the 1/4 mile by the 360 and then the 996tt beat the 360. The 360 was ahead of the Skyline by 4 car lengths and 996 tt beat out 360 by one car length. Also from this japanese video- 996 tt had best braking distance and slalom speed. Wanted to buy the video myself but was a demo on an import car show. In terms of who's smoking crack and all- how long before every single time on the track the GT2 will win and win and win and you still think 360 is your choice. I'm looking at sheer performance between the two. This isn't a beauty contest and the GT2 isn't no slouch either in that venue. regards. Mike
