Default '02 or '03 996

Am considering buying a 996, either '02 or '03. Are there any issues with the '02 cars that would make me want to move up to the '03?

Also, is PSM an option or was it standard equipment?

Same car except sound system. They went to MOST optical fiber system for 03 and changed to an in-dash player in place of a cassette player.

PSM was an option on the C2 and, I think, standard on the C4. Look at the order guides at renntech.org.

2003 996 will more likely have the balance of the original Porsche factory warranty (I think it's a 4 year/50K) which is transferable to you whether you buy from an individual or non-Porsche dealer.

CPO is only a "big ticket items" type of warranty and isn't as comprehensive as the original warranty.

Someone else on this board once said that it is best to buy the newest Porsche WITHIN your budget that you can. Why are choosing just between an 02 and 03? Why not 04 etc...

If this is your first Porsche, I would most heartily recommend one with PSM. The system is always on unless you turn it off. Ir-respective of model make sure you are comfortable when driving in just a shirt. For many drivers with broad shoulders, the seat back on the standard seats are too narrow. This was a source of complaint throughout its entire production run.
