Post Front License Plate holder braket

Does anyone know where to get a front License Plate Frame Braket for a 996 at a more reasonable price than $45. If so, where and how much. I hate to put one on. They are now giving tickets for not having a front license plate in the area where I live. I went 16 years with out having one on my 81 sc, and had no problem. Thanks for all your responses.

Hi Ron: That price is too high even for a Porsche dealer.

First of all you have to call it a front license plate "assembly"

Here is what IRA Porsche in Danvers MA charged me
800.774.8411

996-701-107-00 license plate $7.56 1 ea
996-701-801-00 license frame 2.42 1 ea
996-701-802-00 license frame 2.42 1 ea
900-143-134-00 Tap Screw 2.03ea 4 total
900-145-012-07 Screw 4.2X32 .48ea 2 total

Total was $27.88 with shipping and MA sales tax

What the "assembly is is a plastic type black plate with expanding plastic male inserts that push into the 2 holes in the bumper. They sort of lock in and the insert expands much like you would use if you were putting a screw into dry wall. That gets your mounting "assembly on the car. then the plate attaches with the 4 screws provided. It's a real cheap device. What I've started doing is mount the plate to the device and put it in the back seat. If I should get stopped I'll tell them it fell off and need to get it repaired. It's a really cheap mount and looks ugly. you can see it on my car.

Here's something you might try that I saw on a friend's Boxster that he didn't want to put a front license plate: He happens to own a race shop that can make its own decals. So he had a decal made that is identical to a New York license plate and applied it to the front bumper where the bracket would normally go. If you can find someone who makes decals you might try it.

Probably not. If it was legal, even barely, I KNOW we'd have seen it in use before - rather like the old UK numbers used to be ok as decals (but not now).

It would be an excellent solution to the problem, although it wouldn't much help the Police with their laser revenue collection activity so there's little possibility of it being ok.

I hope I'm wrong.

I confess, I splurged for a carbon fiber porsche techquipment plate - but the dealer that services your car will probably give you one of theirs for free - if you don't mind their logo on your car.

As far as I know, my friend's never been cited because of his decal "plate".

I have a bracket that I am not using. If you want it, you can have it, just pay shipping. E-mail me (mpgk3@yahoo.com). I hate that stupid front license plate rule..

Don, what do you tell the same cop the next time he pulls you over at the same spot for " no front plate " ?

Mike - terrific attitude! I love that now!

For the others, email me and I'll send you what some folks have used as an 'explanation.'

Hi Don Watson. Which dealership did you purchase your 996 from?

Hi John: Purchased the car with the help of Brian Buxton @ www.buxtonmotorsports.com The Porsche dealer was Blue Grass Auto in Louisville, KY 40207; 4520 Shelbyville Road. Contact Mark Kennedy @ kennedym@bluegrassauto.com

I live in MA, so front license plate bracket came from IRA Porsche in Danvers, MA

My regular dealer is Reitzl Porsche in Norwell, MA primarily because he's good and he's closest to Cape Cod.

Is that too much info?
