CR210 Speed sesitive volume
Hey my first post since getting the car (99 C2) a few weeks back. Anyone know if there's a way to disable or adjust the speed sensitive volume on the CR210. The discrete jump in volume is kinda annoying and I'd rather not have the function at all unless the amount of change can be adjusted. I couldn't find mention of it in the manual but would hope it was there somewhere. I posted to the Becker board as well but no response so far. Been less than 24 hours mind you.
Thanks
Thanks

I didn't see it but I'll look again. I only have the pdf version that I downloaded from the Becker site right now. I'll be getting the real hardcopy version on Monday, perhaps it will be in there. Thanks for the reply.

There's a separate instruction manual for the radio--the instructions are not in the main owners manual. And there is a way to adjust the sensitivity.

Thanks. Two almost instant replies, I'm impressed.
It's the manual for the radio that I'm getting on Monday but from what you say it's not going to help. I'm betting that there's a wire I can disconnect that will kill that "feature".

From the Becker manual...
Go to the user mode (hold the downarrow button down for at least 4 secs). Then use the right rotaty **** to get to GAL.
GAL setting
The GAL is a car radio control circuit which automatically adjusts the car radio volume according to vehicle speed. This results in compensation of the driving noise produced at higher speeds.
Request user menu, then set GAL using the right rotary control. Pressing the multifunction buttons"<" or ">" enables a choice between GAL OFF and GAL 7. The setting is stored automatically.
Explanation of terms:
GAL OFF - no volume adjustment
GAL 1 - volume adjustment initiated at low speed
GAL 7 - volume adjustment initiated at high speed
With the GAL setting, the start of volume adjustment can be specified according to vehicle speed.

Thanks much for the detailed response Loren but I think that must be for a different unit. Unless someone stole my rotary ***** when I wasn't looking that is. I tried the same procedure on the off chance it may work by no go I'm afraid. The user button doesn't do anything if you hold it down. Time to think about getting the wire cutters me thinks.

From the CR210 manual that came with my 99:
The radio will automatically increase the volume as the speed of the car increases. This function is adjustable by pressing the automatic switch until “GAL” appears in the display. Use the multifunction keys under the “ < >” symbols to choose the level desired.
The radio ha three levels
GAL Off –
GAL 1 – Minimum volume increase
GAL 2 – Normal volume increase (factory setting)
GAL 3 – Maximum volume increase
To store your choice, press the multifunction key under “AS”.
Note: The automatic switch is the rocker switch with the up/down arrows on the far right of the faceplate.

Good question Patrick. DSP? Digital signal processor is my assumption but how would I know if I had it or not? I think I saw something on the Becker site about it being part of the amp now that you mention it. Forgive a dumb newbie question but, where is the amp? There's a couple of empty mounting brackets next to the CD changer so I'm guessing it would be there if i had it. The volume definately changes on its own though and it's definately speed related. One move up in volume is at 100KPH for example.

Thanks Steve but it didn't work for me unfortunately. All that automatic button wants to do is change the station. Perhaps you have the CDR210?

Held it down for about 5 minutes nothing. I wasn't going to let the bugger beat me though so I started on various combinations and finally figured it out. It's like some of the equipment we make, it's a power up option. Hold the down secondary menu (down arrow key)while turning it on and you get to the user menu. There's a few things that can be changed there GAL being one of them. Others, with the possible exception of contrast, are things I'll leave alone until I get the manual. Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. Lots of different ideas on this but we got there in the end.

Took me about an hour 4 years ago to figure out how to turn GAL on, only 20 minutes this time to remember how to turn it off. And I have the radio manual. <img border="0" alt="[grrrrrrr]" title="" src="graemlins/cussing.gif" />
Push the on button and then immediately push and hold the button below where you see a '*' on the display - this is the 9th button. Then you see this display.
<img src="http://www.986host.com/albums/ToolPants/DSC02449.sized.jpg" alt=" - " />
Then you push the black toggle button on the right with the white arrows to see the different menues, including GAL.
<img src="http://www.986host.com/albums/ToolPants/DSC02450.sized.jpg" alt=" - " />
Then you push the 5/6 buttons below the word GAL where the arrows are pointing to the left and right. Choice is off, 1, 2, or 3. To save your choice push the 10th button below AS on the display. Hope I can remember this again, as the manual is not clear. Jeff

Jeff, thanks so much for going to such trouble. Wish I had the in dash CD version but mine is the cassette version (CR210 rather than CDR210) with 6 disk changer. Tried your method just for the heck of it but it didn't work but, the group effort got me there.
