Post Rear Wiper utility

Hi,
Could you tell me if the rear wiper is an needed option. I am living in Europe and the rain is frequent ;-)

The dealer tell me the rear wiper is not really needed (just use the rain X) but wy is in standard on the turbo model !

Thanks

I debated getting the rw on my c4s. The sales guy talked me out of it. I have driven in the rain many times this spring and have never needed it.

I agree with your sales rep. My dealer said the same thing. On recent previous posts, it does prove usefull if you drive in snow and during snow fall. Do a search, and you should see all the posts.

Very useful when driving slow in the rain (e.g. in traffic in Belgium where I come from...). Pretty useless in other conditions

Hi,

rear wiper is not a must on cars. Have you ever seen a sedan with rw?

the design of the rear part of 996 is such that the rear wheels never "spit" mud from the road surface on rear windscreen. answering the question regarding the turbo please note that the turbo has a slightly different rear end from standard 996 (air ducts, different spoiler, wider arches), which might create a different case altogether.

Don't take it.

Saves a few pounds from where it's really needed (to save weight).

Completely purpose less unless your car ever see's snow or you drive in reverse 90% of the time at speeds over 60mph.

I don't even use rain-x, and no problem.

I also questioned this decision but I am glad now, I did not add them. Use the money for something else.

I totally disagree. I find it to be invaluable. When it is raining heavily, the mirrors will be covered to the point that you can't see out of them, and rain will stick to the back window when you are driving in traffic. Being able to see behind me (especially with New York drivers) is worth the trade off in weight and cost. The wiper, auto dimming mirrors and xenon headlights were the 3 best options on my car (02 C4S).

Depends where you live for most part but living in san francisco where it gets foggy quite abit it really helps to remove the fog layer rather then going out to wipe it. My only gripe is most rear wipers in other cars do have water injectors to rinse off the crud because without it it squeaks like hell when not so wet but it's just a minor quibble. For most part don't really need one but my car came with it and it's been useful where I live. mike

I agree with Alan A and 996FLT -- I have found this a useful utlity and weightage is minimal (ie utility/weightage ratio is high ) I've found that the beads of Chicago rain tend to stay on the rear windscreen.

Like 996FLT, my rear wiper does rub unevenly sometimes, but it's a minor issue.

Regards.
