Calipers..does anyone know for sure????
I am thinking about swapping my 996 C2 Calipers for the Boxter S Calipers because I want Red Ones. Nobody seems to be able to tell me if they are the same size in the back. I am getting conflicting stories. Even the dealerships tell me they will look into it and call me back. Haven't heard back from one! Does anyone know for sure? Thanks in advance!

I understand that you could just have the calipers painted. If you need a supplier for new brakes you might contact Foreign Affairs Motorsports. Talk to Bobby at 954 746-0488.

I have looked into painting the calipers but have been told that it will still be expensive because they need to be powder coatd and I will not have use of the car for a few days while they are being sent out for painting. I think if I can get a good price for new ones and sell the others on EBAY I should come out about the same. The ones on the car are in excellent shape.
Here is a follow up question that someone brought to my attention. They told me I should replace the C2 calipers with the TT Calipers. They told me that it is just an even swap and I would get better braking performance. Is this true? Is there anything else needed? Thanks again!

Redhat... Someone else told me that he upgraded his to the TT calipers and rotors, and he had regretted doing so.. I believe he was going back to stock or Boxster S calipers.. I don't recall the problems that he had but he just mentioned that it wasn't worth it. I've done my homework and Crescent was the cheapest, and you can probably get $600-$800 for your used Black Calipers on e-bay.. so $300-$500 plus labor is what it will cost for the Boxster S calipers. I'm getting my Techart's put on tomorrow, what size do you have 18" or 19", and did you have any rubbing issues if you did the 19"s.. Any pics of your cab?

Hi Gang:
My son and I went through this exact issue about 15 months ago, and our experiences are:
POWDERCOATING
1. Powdercoating will cost $75-$150 each caliper
2. The calipers will need to be removed from the car and disassembled (taking the pistons etc. out)
Mechanic's labor $150-$250; doing it yourself $0
3. The car will be out of commission for 3-7 days
4. The calipers will need to be reassembled and reinstalled on the car then road tested.
Mechanic's labor additional $150-$250; doing it yourself $0
5. The red calipers will need to have the Porsche logo letters stenciled on $50; doing it yourself $0
Total cost $600-$1150
-----------------------
Boxster S calipers
1. Purchased from the Porsche dealer $$250-$275 each caliper
2. Remove the black calipers and replace them with the Boxster S red calipers Mechanic's labor $150-$250 doing it yourself $0 We found it to be easier because we did not need to disassemble the calipers.
3. Sell the black calipers on ebay--$550 for a set of 4
Net total cost $600-$800 with very little hassle and downtime.
------------------------
I guess the scariest part about the powdercoating method is the disassembling of the pistons, being that is the braking system I would leave it to the professionals IMHO. And of course, the downtime while waiting for the powdercoating to "dry" our mechanic was going to charge us for 3 days of storage.
Hope this has help, good luck

Thanks guys! Exactly the information I was looking for. This is why I love this forum. Looks like I will go ahead and purchase the Boxter S Calipers and make the switch. I actually was quoted a price of $850.00 for the set of four (500 for fronts, 350 for the rears) which seems like a great deal to me. They will be brand new from Porsche.
Kevin M. I got the 18" Formulas so no rubbing issues. I love the look of them. I will post some pics soon. Thanks for your help.

Here is an update. The dollars I was quoted were too good to be true...turns out those prices were each instead of per pair.
So I decided to cal Crescent Porsche to try to get their advertised special in all the magazines and on their website ($289.00/caliper) They said there was a recent price raise by Porsche and now the best they can do on the fronts is $400.00 each. I wonder if that can be considered false advertising?
