The Color Black
I think my decison on color is sorta already made. Nevertheless, I love black.
So, here is my situation: Basically, I am buying a "garage queen".
I work at home and only go to the office on Wednesday; a 40 mile round trip. I own three other vehicles.
I doubt the C4S will be driven more than 5K per year.
I am aware that black shows everything, but since it is a limited use car for me do you think it would be worth taking the chance.
BTW, blemishes on a car keep me awake at night.

Trading in black car for white... black looks SOOOO HOT when its clean, but thats only for the first 5 min after you wax it. If you are truly going to garage it, have no trees, live in a dry climate and don't plan on driving too often, black is the way to go, otherwise... something else. <img src="graemlins/burnout.gif" border="0" alt="[burnout]" />
Black is nice but even if you do a stellar job to maintain it- it is a pain to keep it clean and free of swirls and you will do it often. If blemishes keep you up at nite then you already answered your question. I've seen a new black 02 on the dealer showroom and I see blemishes on that so just taking it out for little drives you'll be back cleaning it up. And at least from my point of view-that you think you only drive on occasion- I thought I be doing that too having 3 cars as well but I always drive my Porsche-it's so much fun. Regards. Mike

If you really love black, get it. My 993 is black. It looks gorgeous when it's clean, which it almost always is, but it is not easy AT ALL to keep it this way. I, too, am kept awake by paint blemishes. I don't use the car daily, but I do use it frequently. I do track events and Concours events. I love driving it, but I hate parking it. After 7 years and 45,000 miles, the paint still looks new -- no swirls, etc. But I'm a nut, and it's not easy to keep it like this.
If you like black best and are prepared to deal with it, get it. If you like another color as much, don't get black. BTW, I had a metallic black BMW, which was much easier to keep clean-looking than the non-metallic black 993.

I had/have a black Boxster and black Ferrari. It looks great clean. I'd detail my car and in one day you could see dust, etc. My daily driver will never be black again.
My new silver C4S needs to get quite filthy before it is noticeable.

Without stepping on anyone's toes - the true color for a sports car is Silver or Black.
Unfortunatly, Silver has been taken up too many times recently in sedan, stationwagon, and SUV designs, so we are left with Black. Yes - it is PERFECTLY clean for about 3.5 seconds after you wax/wash it, BUT it does not show dirt as much, and if you can keep the swirls under control - you good.
Black is good for professional Stealth highway cruising.
AND - if you REALLY want to keep it on the down low, stealth, for a long cruize at high speeds (nothing crazy - just faster than traffic) - let the black car get dirty - NOBODY notices it at all!
If you want to be noticed, and get tickets, and get keyed in the walmart parking lot, get a red or yellow Porsche. Its just asking for trouble.
IMHO - and to infer no disrespect to any of you here.

I like the Walmart keyed thing on red/yellow Porsches : ). Thank god there's not one around here. Regards. Also if you do get stone chips it's very noticeable in black. Regards. Mike
My last Porsche was black, I drove it everyday. My current Porsche is Silver, I drive it everyday. I sold the black one while the paint was still nice, but sold it because I couldnt deal with the constant cleaning. The silver hasnt been washed in a while and looks clean always. Much more user friendly....
I know what ur saying, i have always owned black cars since 17. Thats 7 black cars, and my porsche is a dark metallic blue. Never really thought it was a hard color to take care of until i got a gold lexus this year. And DAMN!!! what a difference!! It doesnt need to be washed every other day and it hides swirls and scratches!!! I dont think i'll ever go back to black or dark cars now...
