Post Valentine One INSIDE mirror?

Has any seen pictures or heard of an installation of a V1 detector inside the rear view mirror, so that the arrows appear on the surface of the mirror? Any idea on the cost?

Check the boxster board archives, it's about $1500 and it's done in NY. Ask yourself the quesyion WHY however. How far away is your V1 going to be from your rear view mirror anyway? Are those inches worth $1500

I have seen it but what's the point if you mount it as high as possible for max protection anywayz? It's right there and it can still be seen. Go with the remote display in front of the guages and the detector between passenger visor and rear view mirror.

A company in California sells the mirror with the remote display in the mirror for $350. This is the remote display only in the mirror - not the V1 unit itself. Jeff

I think that having the V1 remote in the rear view mirror defeats the purpose of the remote. Wouldn't your friendly local CHP be able to see the lights blinking in your mirror if he was behind you? With the remote installed in the center console the lights are not visible to the car behind you.

That's my 2 cents....

My install was delayed a bit, but from the "outside" it looks good.

Actually UmNitza has a mirror where the display cannot be seen from a distance because its not cut into the mirror, but actually behind the glass, and shines thru. Called the InV1si-Mirror.
The mirrors look great, basically replaces the need for the V1 remote unit:
http://www.umnitza.com/new/loader.html?page=inv1si#
They are $350.

Just had it done at AVI in Little Falls NJ for <$2000 soup to nuts and its awesome. See post on 996 turbo board for nj, ny ct meeting. The on off switch was put in the knockout next to the ignition so you can turn it off easily.

The V1 in the rear view mirror is useless.

I know how to take off the mirror without the special tool. Hit it with your head.

It is done the exact same way on a 996.

JP from SoCal of BMW fame does the mirrors for the NorCal company. I contacted him a long time ago to do a Boxster mirror as it is smaller than a BMW or 996 mirror and he said to sent it to see if he could fit it in but I did not have an extra. Now his work is sold via the NorCal company for much more. I missed the boat. Jeff

Two reasons.

1. You lose laser detection, but that can be remedied easily with a blinder.

2. During a recent 4000 mile road trip I brought an extra V1 and had it plugged into the cigarette lighter. While driving time after time again the one that was not remoted would go off far in advance of the the one in the mirror. Sometimes up to one mile in advance. If you call Valentime they do not reccomend doing this. On other occasions it did not even go off. I am looking at other options right now.

I paid 1500 and I feel like I got totally ripped.

concerning the one that is remoted etc. What you were experiencing was the height and placement. That is why valentine says to put it as high up as you can for the longest distance of detection possible. If it is low it will simply not detect as far. hence if you split it you would want to put the parts on the top of the f & r windsheild and remote it wherever.
