Hey guys...hold up... I was not saying I would DO it yo MY 996. I like both the 996 and the 997 and would be so inclinde to have one of each (if they wife didn't kill me if I tried! LOL). Both have their pluses. I was just asking had anybody else seen this out there? And curious if anybody had done it yet and if so what they thought of their vehicle before and after.

I agree it is so radical a modification if you can call it that so that if you did it to your vehicle your re-sale value would probably tank other than with a few select buyers who would want it. And for the $10K you'd spend on part plus another $3-5k getting the work done and that paint matched and everything fitted out just right...hell why not put THAT $$ down on a 997 or maybe even a nice Cayman S!

Sorry if I offended anyone or cause "shock and awe" here...was just soliciting an opinion of the members of something new and interesting that was presented to me for 996's!

Now like Keith and a few others mentioned. If you had a wreck and needed a whole new front end sheetmetal wise. Then redoing the front end with one of these refurb kits for the 997 front end might not be a bad idea. Afterall you'd already have the depreciation from the accident and repair anyway correct? I mean what is the difference between this and the slant nose conversion of earlier carrera's (weren't they 993's) that I remember seeing in the 1980's and early 1990's?

Just a thought..

No need to apologize, I'm sure it didn't offend anyone here

The main thing, whatever the mod may be, is to enjoy the hell out of your car. Going against some popular thought, if you want to mod your car a certain way and think the 997 conversion will bring a grin to your face, then do it! hell, you only live life once... but being the factor of resale, the amount of $ it may cost and aesthetic improvements of the conversion, there are much more (and subjectively) better options out there

And if you did get into a wreck and the front end needs to be repaired, I would invest in a 02+ conversion (like I previously said) way before the 997

With that in mind I'd be tempted to go 997.. I prefer oval headlights.

They didn't make this kit with the intent to sell to people that have wrecked their cars... They would lose their shirt if that was their only targeted market.

I still would not do it if I had wrecked my car.. But hey it's your money, spend it in whatever way you get enjoyment and satisfaction...

Yeah, I realize that.. but that ( accident ) is the only circumstance I would consider this mod.. I for SURE would not replace my 99 front end with standard if I had an accident - but it is true that an 02 996 front end would be a less drastic step. I think that "boxter nose" will be the curse of the 99-01 car in terms of value and ease of resale in 5 years and I think that there WILL be a money conscious group of buyers who would be MORE likely to buy a mk1 with a different nose to get them into a porsche.. and that they would pay 996 mk 1 book price for it.

Let's face it. The 996 Mk 1 is never going to be considered in the same way as the 993 or even the 964 in terms of authenticity. There are simply too many of them and the extent to which they are modified without a second thought is testament to this.

this is going to be a stupid arguement years down the road. look at those who convert 914/911/964/993 to 914-6/RSR/turbo look/slantnose/930/935/993GT2/etc,. anyone look down on those? hmmmm....

there are always purists out there and they need to relax

996 design harkens to the GT1 EVO that won LeMans.
Original, simple, aerodynamic lines, untethered and organic.

I love the conversion kit, would never buy it, because like is said before, buy a 997...but I love the rond headlights on the 997 and if I would have front damage I would convert to the 997 front on my 996....If I had rear damage I would go for the 996 turbo rear.
I like the 996 interior and don't know if I like the 997 interior in the longrun....but if I have the money I would buy a 997...love the lines and rond headlight and bigger butt....

I don't think your depriciation will be more....maybe even less

Look, you have a '99 that is worth $30k. Suppose you would rather update the look than pay the $55k difference....only to get into ANOTHER massive depreciation cycle.

So slap these on and pay $5k to re-paint the car another color and you've got a car that feels new.
not to mention the cost.
If I had a 99' I'd upgrade to an 05' when I learned to **** money
