Post Regarding catless exhaust

Hello and good day!! Has anyone here on the board run with stock exhaust(PSE or stock) and header but without cats? How does it sound like? Is it way too loud? Regards. Mike

Mike,
I was about to remove the cats on my 996 when i started the discussion and found out it'd be non-adviseable to remove them, unless you put others that can take care of the electronics involved in pre and post oxygen sensors.. some racing cats i learnt that 'cheat' on the electronic system of the car..

It will surely sound louder and you should get more power.. BUt you'll surely get the CEL sooner than you think!

Only reason Waz for getting rid of the cats is they create so much heat build up
and on the track on a hot day isn't great for any engine. I know midrange/top end will show gains in hp/trq which is great on the track but sound if too loud would be a damper since I do jolly around the city in my car. Regards and thanks. Mike

I was told that if you flash your comp. to the row then it gets rid of that problem as it only uses 2 of the 4 sensors or something like that, and no cel.

DO NOT DRIVE THE CAR ON THE STREET WITHOUT A CAT.

Besides being illegal, it will ruin your paint on the back of the bumper regardless of color. The unburned gas will always leave a film above your bumpers and when you buff this stuff off after a long period of time it will eat away your bumper's clear coat.

I had this on my BMW before, and I will never go through it again. Also, if you have a chip that is rich on the fuel, it will pop flames when you pop the gas abruptly at high RPMS.

That's interesting I have seen it done on quite a few 993tt's with no problems.

This is in the long term...i.e. If you ever spilled gas on your fender and let it dry, you will know what I mean. 65k miles in 2 years owing the car is what it took me to find out. I used so much rubbing compound each time I washed the car to take it off, the paint was like primer with no shine. I'm sure you won't notice effects just for a weekend driver, but if you plan to keep the car be ready to paint the bumper after this stuff accumulates. Its so bad, a brillow pad barely scrapes it off.

Sean,
why suddenly your car is bunch of junk?
and how was your trip to sf?

I will have my laptop and my cell hooks up so I have 118k to it!

You can use 02 simulators (the LS1 guys have been doing it for years) that will solve the 02 sensor problem.
