996 TT or 360 Modena
#2
Hi bel!
i would like to have choices like this,
It depends what you want to do with. If you're looking for: daily driver, track, reliability ,look etc, go for the TT.
Then if you want to use it only the weekends, just a few tracks(?),garage queen, look ,show car, and you're ready to spend a few bucks in services (quite expensive)... then go for the F360! .
( Also the time to order a 360 is quite long, and Ferrari Inc can choose if you deserve this car or not.)
So then if you can buy both of them would be better!
good luck.

Although people lump these cars together they really are quite different. The 996TT is more reliable although the 360 has been pretty damn good on this count. The TT is much cheaper to maintain, much more easily used as a daily driver, and faster on the track with the less than professional driver.
That being said, the 360 has better handling in the sense of its feedback to the driver and has less understeer. It feels more like a race car and the 996TT feels more like a GT(no flames please, I own a 996TT). The analogy I use is the TT is a large broadsword and the 360 is a rapier, both are effective but different. The 360 also has an engine sound that makes grown men weep. The fit and finish is also better on the Ferrari. It feels that is was finely crafted by artisans in Italy. As far as exterior design, well it tough to beat any Ferrari.
I live 5 hours away from a Ferrari dealership so the decision was easy for me. Also, I wanted something to drive daily and on long trips as well as take to the track. My 2001 996TT has been dead reliable with 14000 miles and has had two oil changes and a set of brake pads and a set of rear tires. I love it more every day and it still impresses me with the fact that I can take it to the track, drive it home, wash it and it looks and drives new again.
Either way you will win.

Both cars are fairly amazing for driving fast on the street. The 996TT is also good for mundane transportation, not a small achievement in such a brutally fast car. The 360 is better for emotion and sensation, clearly, plus the materials are higher grade.
The difference in maintenance is non-trivial. A friend of mine paid $9000 for the 30,000 mile service on the 360. I just did that one early on my 996 for $800 including new coolant and brake fluid.
So get the 360 Spider. While alive, live.

Guys,
Thanks for the feedback, both cars wil be second hand. Only the prices here in Belgium are almost the same for a 2000 model. (96k Euro for the TT and 100K Euro for the F360). I just used it for the weekends (German Highways) and some track.
Not more than 10K km a year(service should be 2K a year)
GT2 is +155K.

$9,000 for the 30K on the 360??? That's just insane, and far more than the same service on a 355. Was there something wrong with the car that required more work than just the service, or is that the going rate?

No doubt F360 if money is not a problem for you. For those who think 996TT can be use as daily driver, must never own one or drive one for more than 30mins on the road. I live in Los Angeles area and there's no way you can use 996TT as daily driver. The ride is just way too harsh for the $hitty fwy in LA. Also, 996TT is just too common around here. There's 8 996TT around my neighborhood, but only 2 F360s. F cars resale value is also way better than P cars.

LOL. I have 27,500 miles on my 996TT daily driver including a number of 2,000 + mile road trips.
It's a great daily driver and long distance car.

Ahhh, those comments are very revealing.
Are you one of those "cars as jewelry" type of folks who is more concerned about impressing the neighbors rather than driving your car?
F360 are gorgeous cars with an unbelievable exhaust note. I wish I could have both, but until that time, I get by because I spend time on the track with the local Ferarri club.
At least I get to look and listen to them...
