mercedes makes it a no cost option! why does porsche try to screw us with these stupid little details?
i would love to pick up a turbo in germany but i refuse to be ripped off by this unnecessary extra charge!
i hope someone from porsche follows this board!

Porsche charge extra for many things that should be standard on a $80,000.00+ car. I think this practice is beginning to backfire on Porsche, as many people order their 996s without these expensive options, making the overall quality of the brand seem cheaper than MB, BMW, Acura, etc...

i agree that our options are grossly overpriced and cannot be recouped at trade in, making for lots of stripped down 996's. i am a bit surprised that reply to this thread has been so scanty.

I am also puzzled at this practice from Porsche. They should follow the BMW practice.
At some point all this nonsense should have an impact in Porsche's bottom line and hopefully they will do something about it.

I too am displeased (to put it mildly) with this practice.
But when Porsche brags about their profits on their website, where do you think it comes from?
This European delivery is a small item when you consider the upgrades one has to do when they purchase a new Porsche just to get it in line with other vehicles's STANDARD interiors. That's what really bothers me.
Also b/c European delivery brings foreigners (and their wallets and US dollars) into the country the German govt gives the maufacturer a tax credit for every Euro Del car they sell.
So not only is Porsche charging the customer, they are also receivng the credit from the govt. No wonder their profits are that good.

as much as i would like to take delivery of a turbo in germany i will not do so while i am being cheated in this manner
rr's point about a german tax credit to pag makes this practice even more offensive. i will not be taken advantage of!
rr's point about spartan standard interiors with expensive upgrades applies more to c2's than c4s's or turbos but is still a good point. $700 for footwell lighting, $200 for embossed leather on the headrest, $800 for a few bits of aluminum on the gearshift and hand brake, $150 for painted center wheel caps are all ridiculous and should be included at no extra charge in an $80k+ car. such shameless profiteering would be a deal breaker if pag didn't make such great cars. still they should avoid trying our patience this way!

In 2004, I plan to take factory delivery, but have not pursued yet. I do recall about 10 years ago, I did take factory delivery on a 911 and did save $$'s, but a lot has changed, and know we don't save any dollars any more.
Questions for those who took factory delivery recently:
1) How much extra is factory delivery today ?
2) When I took factory delivery years ago, I was able to drive the car for three weeks in Europe, than brought back to factory and they checked it over, repaired flaws, and took care of a couple of paint chips. Do they still do the same today ?
Or does that need to be done locally back in the states ?
Thanks.

european delivery was over $3k this last summer. more than enough to rent a nice car in germany and not take any risks with your new porsche. the autobahn are too crowded to go very fast anyway!
the main thing is that this "service" is a rip off!
