Unhappy Need Advice-Dealer overfilled oil level ....

by approximately 1.3 quarts. Wife drove it approximately 15 miles to home before I caught the mistake. Dealer came out to house to drain excess oil.

At this point I am very concerned if any damage could have been done during wife's drive home. What damage could have been done? How can I tell if any damage has been done?

What would you insist upon the dealer doing to cover any future problems that may result from this mistake???

Thanks for your advice,

John:

I'm no expert, but there have been a lot of posts about 911 overfills. My take on all that is that probably no damage occured in that short time and distance. Had you taken it on track and really heated up the oil, it might be different. For one thing, you'd have a very messy engine compartment. One quart plus overfill is a lot from a dealer though. Did they hire a high schooler to change oil over the summer?

Now have a good night's sleep.

Ditto above. Did you have a lot of white smoke on restart? This happens after over fill. The oil leaks past the valves and burns off on restart. Can also happen after spirited driving. I track my car and this happened to me on restart. There is a TSB about replacing the dip stick with a slightly longer one and reprogramming the dash gauge. This lowers the oil level by about a quart. Only necessary if you drive very aggressively or track your car. I doubt there is any damage to your car. I have not had any problems.

Mike
