Question How much do you drive?

Hey all,
I took delivery of my car 1 year ago next week, I now have 14856 miles on it. Is this too much? I can't bring myself to drive anything else. I know I am lowering its value by driving it, but how much is too much? How much does the average 996 driver drive in a year?

That I cannot say. However, I just acquired my 996, and plan to drive it whenever possible as my daily driver, and hopefully DE events, which will put probably 15K / yr on it or more. I bought the car to drive it, not to resell it later, so I suppose I'll have to cross the high-mileage bridge when I get to it. But it will be a fun trip!

do we think of resale value when we buy a nice pair of leather dress shoes. heck no! we buy things to enjoy them. who gives a rip about resale value, unless "the journey" isn't what you're after in life.

Hey guys,

I picked up my 2003 C4S last month. I now have 2200 miles on it. Many people buy these cars to drive solely on the weekends, or when the weather is nice. If I'm paying this much for a car, I'm going to drive it.

The depreciation is relative in my opinion. So you only put x amount of miles on the car, and didn't take it to certain places for fear of the mileage being too high. Give me a break! I'd rather take the hit on the value and relish the memories made while driving the car!

My seller couldn't justify the return on his investment (I use that loosely!) for a car that got 8400 miles from new in 01 until last week. I, however, will drive it daily, so I intend to get quite a return on my investment. It's all about individual choices. Ed

I haven't been able to give mine away with 77K ('99). And believe me, trade-in will be very low when you want to upgrade. My thought, don't worry about mileage if you are sure you have bought your last car or can afford to keep it when you buy another.

The age of the car will be a bigger factor in the depreciation than the mileage. I think you'd be really disappointed if in the next 5 years you drive a total of only 5000 miles and the value depreciated $20,000 versus having a heck of a time driving it 50,000 miles and seeing $24,000 of depreciation. A 996 is meant to be driven! (If you just got it for the looks, you can get some pretty awesome scale models for &lt;$50 <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" /> )

I agree with you guys 100% my previous 911 was a '90 C4 cab with over 100,000 miles on it when I sold it. What I wanted to know is:
A-How much does a true enthousiast drive v/s a poser?
B-Is there a point where the mileage gets "too high"? My plan is to get a TT-Cab in the future.

I "bought my car with a lease beater loan from the credit union. After 5 years (you can get them anywhere from 3-5 years) I just refinance pay it off or give them the car. I can sell it whenever I want because its mine BUT when its time and/or I cant sell it I just give it back and pay for excess mileage! It's great I plan on giving it back with over 100k miles!! I drive about 20-25k a year!

I have put 6k (mostly canyon run miles) on it in the last 3 months! I am slowing down with the mileage now though.

Last month, I put 2,600 miles on my 996--I drive a lot. My Bimmer had 260,000 miles before I dumped it for this car. I won't own a Porsche with that many miles, I'll flip this thing for another car well before it gets to 100,000.
