Car comes out of gear (2nd Gear)
On several occasions I have notice that my 02 C2 Cab. comes out of 2nd gear. It does not happen all the time, in fact it is rather infrequent. I wonder if it is me (gear not fully engaged?) or if it is the car. Any ideas or sugestions? Thanks!

Actually mine was built sometime last year (I got the car this past December). Like I said, the problem has happened only a few times and I do not seem to be able to reproduce it at will.

Had a similar problem with my 99 C2. It also would not go into 1st if I was rolling forward even slightly. Got a new transmission out of that after first being told it was first gear synchos. Does it jump out of gear under load? That was my problem as well.

Say! Are you sure you're driving a Porsche. My 1965 Shelby (Borg Warner T-10) does the same thing!

Another stupid remark. Hope it doesn't happen to u or something else. The guy has something going wrong and you think it's funny? There was another a$$hole (993 guy-Speedracer and you) who said crap on someone else when someone had a problem and all of you can go to hell!!! Have the dealer/service check it out-there's a recall of some sort with reference to tranny problems. Hope that helps. Regards. Mike

Hi Nicoff:
Sounds like you have a bad transmission also, we have been complaining to the dealer since 1/02 about the rough 1st and 2nd gears, they also told us it is normal syncros, "it will take time to break in" and "you are shifting too hard, try using the 2 finger shift method instead of 5 fingers".
Our buld date as 8/01 and we took delivery 9/01, but there are a few other 996ers that are experiencing the same tranny problems as reported on a different 996 board (transmission recall)
There is a guy who is taking his '02 996 into the dealer today to get the whole story about the transmission recall. BTW, even if your 996's VIN# is not on the recall list, I feel it would be prudent to get it checkout anyway because we are having tranny problems, and we are not the recall list.

Nicoff,
Sorry to hear about your trouble. I am having the same problem with my 993 Cab at the track. I dont know if it applies here but cabs flex a little bit more that normal and could cause the trans pop out of gear. I had my race shop put in RS engine/trans mounts and the problem went a way unless it was really being pushed hard at the track, high G turns would pop the car out of gear because of the way the cab flexes. I am having the trans torn down now to see if anything is wrong. If your popping out in a straight line, then there is a bigger problem than body flex...

Skytop-point is someone's car has a problem and he needs advice. I don't see the point of making funny remarks. It's like seeing your kid fall down off their bicycle and kids across the street laughing-it's not funny. I can understand comparing cars and all and talking smack but this is not one of them. Regards. Mike

cmoss - good point -
And on top of that, look at this whole thread.
The question was stated and it looks like that within a day or two, Mr. Nicoff received at least a half dozen solid technical responses.
But I'm also greatful for the humour that appears on occassion. Personally, I think this group wouldn't be as nearly interesting if it read like the dry transcript of a tech support hotline.

I agree with Mike-Alot of you guys obviously aren't experiencing the aggravation that some of us have had.Nicoff-that cars needs a new trans period. And Skytop, you're right too! Porsche's USED to be special-now they're turning out "just another car!" Quality certaintly isn't a priority. I don't like to wish bad things on people but if you have the opportunity to deal with PCNA-I bet you won't have such a easy going attitude.Customer commitment is an oxymoron.

I have been having problem with 2nd gear also, it pops out alot while deceleration. As for goin' from first to second, it once awhile does not engage in properly and pops out 2 or 3 sec afterwards... well, i took it to a dealership today.. they're ordering a new tranny for me.. the mechanic was saying that he's experienced the problem before, more often when deceleration...
