I have a 2002 C2 with PSE. It still has the auto mute feature that cuts the sound between 25-45 mph. My PSE has the electronics in place, but does not have the switch on the dash. Kind of a stupid installation which came that way from the factory. The only reason I have not finished what someone else had started before I bought the car is I really don't give a damn about making it quiet. My question is, can I just pull the brown plug off of the vacume solenoid in the engine compartment to defeat the auto mute. Would doing so have any effect on anything else? TIA.

The early 2002 996 PSE factory installations did not include the dash switch to mute to exhaust.
You have a couple of options.
1. Install the dash switch so that you can manually quiet the exhaust.
2. Disconnect the speed sensor wire at the PSE relay to eliminate the 30-45 mph "quiet mode"
3. Disable the PSE vacuum cutout switch by unplugging the electrical connector.
Here is a post in RennTech that explored all of these options.
