What do you guys think is the better choice, buying a new 2002 (with some options missing) now or custom ordering a 2003 for delivery in october-november?

2002
1. Should be on sale, cheaper.
2. Immediately available.
3. Already a year old, resale will be less.
4. Not the EXACT car you want.

2003
Reverse all of the above.

Life is full of choices and compromises. It's up to you to make them.

Talking

It's head vs heart. If you have a Pcar now I would order an 03 and get what you want. If you're in withdrawal then maybe the 02 is what you need. How long do you plan on keeping this one with alleged big changes coming in 04, etc.etc. I know this will clear things up for you!

Straight from your friends at the IRS:

Luxury Tax
The luxury tax is imposed on the first retail sale of a passenger vehicle with a price exceeding the base amount. The seller of the vehicle is liable for the luxury tax.

For 2002, the tax is 3% of the amount the sales price exceeds the base amount of $40,000. However, the base amount is increased for the following vehicles.

For an electric vehicle, the base amount is increased by 50%.

For a clean-fuel vehicle, the base amount is increased by the amount the price of the vehicle increases due to the installation of retrofit parts and components that permit the vehicle to be propelled by a clean-burning fuel.

The luxury tax is scheduled to expire after 2002.
