Post 'Drunk Sunroof'

Greetings,

My sunroof jammed inside and refused to close again. I found out it was lifting vertically while it was inside instead of really going horizontally... I had to force it to close and scratched the corner in the process...

Is there electronics involved? I am afraid to open it again horizontaly (i only use it vertically now) although i was enjoying the open space..

Has it ever happened to anyone?

Do you think you might have to 're-teach' the sunroof? The Porsche Tech manual has a section about reprogramming the limits for up/down and open/close functions. I can send the instructions if you like.

Of course, the only thing the manual says is that i should take it to a porsche dealer (not available here)..

Instructions from you would be greatly appreciated..

Not sure if this will help, but here's how you re-teach the "lifting/sliding roof". This reprograms the open, lift and close positions. There are two parts: Teaching the lifting mech, which seems to be working for you, and teaching the sliding mech.

Teach Lifting
Turn ignition on, press lift button until it is fully raised. Let go, then press lift button again and hold it down. After about 10sec, the roof will cycle through lowering, then reopening, then closing. Let go of the button, teaching is complete.

Teach Opening
Press the open button until the roof stops sliding. Let go and press again until the roof stops again. Then press the button a third time and hold it down. The roof should go through a close, lift, lower, open and close cycle. Now you can let go of the button, teaching is complete.

Hey Was!
How do you do the car's service in up there if there's no P-dealer?
Your car may looks as a UFO in Nigeria (There wold be not so much p-cars around!).
I only been in Kenia and Tanzania, Africa, so when you see how they drive! <img src="graemlins/c.gif" border="0" alt="[ouch]" /> <img src="graemlins/c.gif" border="0" alt="[ouch]" />

Bilstein,
it is indeed a ufo here, lots of funny reactions when ppl see it.. some abusive and others cheering.
Yes it's a pain not having a dealer here.. i try to make the best out of it and pray the electronics will not fail me..

i look at it this way:the car has done 67000km so that is a plus for any electronic component that should have failed earlier and a minus for any abrasive mechanical component (that's why am changing the clutch now!)..

Anyway, it'd be quite insane to take care of cars like this i know but hey, have i told you of my other cars here.. check below!

hey bill,

IT WORKED!!! THANKS A LOT!
I first did the up/down procedure and it went thru an up/down/open/close loop then stopped.
So i opened it normally and all keys work now..
It sure is a different ride with the roof open now, especially with the new Blaupunkt 300Watts amp and speakers system i installed...
Party on, Nigeria!
