Default Dynamat installation

Has anyone installed Dynamat sound insulation in their 996 ?
I'm using my 996 as my driver as much as possible but the road and tire noise are more than I like. Of course, there is nothing as quiet as a Lexus but I would like the luxury of 996 performance and at least Corolla quiet.
Dynamat reccommends instalation in the door panels first. Other obvious areas would be wheel wells and the bare metal floor under the seats in a 996.
Any experiences out there ?

I would be interested in this too. With the 911, I would focus first on the rear of the cabin. It seems like a lot more road noise gets in from the bigger, more heavily weighted rear tires.

Under the seats is an obvious one. I was really surprised to see that they didn't carpet that area when I got the car. I can't believe it saves that much performance robbing weight or profit margin...

I installed a large quantity of Dynamat in my 944 but have not yet installed it in my 996. This is a copy and paste of what I posted in the 944 forum for a similar thread.

"I was able to reduce the interior souond levels of my 944 by 10 dBs as measured by a radio shack SPL meter. What I did was remove the seats and carpet and put down four layers of dynamat extreme, put a foam pad in the trunk under the carpet and switched to Bridestone Potenza RE 950 tires, oh and I also filled the hollow cavities where the rear spakers go with foam. When I get the chance, I will also probably undercoat the wheel wells with dynamat spray undercoating and probably undercoat a lot of the rest of the car too.

My advice is to buy dynamat extreme. Original dynamat is terrible by comparison. You can get it very cheap from audioetc1.com. The bulk pack that crutchfield charges $249.00 for (http://www.crutchfield.com/S-Rpc4OY...&search=dynamat) is $131.00 at audioetc1.com (http://audioetc1.com/product_info.p...ucts_id/107990). You should also throw a foam mat under the carpet in the trunk. Check out the dynaliner (http://audioetc1.com/product_info.p...ducts_id/107991) or the tack mat (http://audioetc1.com/product_info.p...ducts_id/107994)

To really make a difference it will probably take two of those bulk packs. Dynamat is not cheap but it does work."

Thanks for the info Fishman. I want to call you Greg for some reason. Is that right ? It seems there was a Boxster guy with that handle.
I guess there's only a few of us that don't need to go faster but want to go more comfortably.

Lexpilot,

My first name is John. There is another Rennlister whose username is, I think, Greg Fishman. Let me know if you have any more questions about Dynamat.

Fishman, any idea how much weight the dynamat added to achieve the 10db reduction?
