A word of advise - Be careful using it on the street. We were out on a ride a few months ago when one individual got pulled over for speeding and had a similiar set-up on his car. The CHP officer confiscated the camera and the tape. Not much wiggle room in court after that.

If his camera weighs 2lbs and the hold strength is 70 lbs, it can withstand a 35g acceleration before coming loose. If he undergoes 35 g's doing anything in his car (or anywhere for that matter) he has a lot more to worry about than the camera coming loose. That said, I'd still tie it down as was suggested

as chad mentioned earlier, yes these are used by us pros in certain settings - but i also use lipstick cameras - particularly on boats and aircraft.
a low-cost version (one that i consider a throw-away) is:

i have a couple of these cameras and they work great. now - you do have to run their cables to a record deck, but if you already have a home camcorder (miniDV or otherwise..) that has analog inputs (those 3 red, white and yellow RCA jacks) then you're in. they are GREAT for all sorts of stuff.
recently at a shoot here at the Miami PD shooting range, i put the lipstick camera out in FRONT (and a bit to the side) of a shooting instructor. the business end of a Glock in use - its a shot i just couldn't have gotten with my betacam - for many reasons. we also put it down by the target and got some incredible pics of the rounds going thru the target.
on cars, i simply tape them down with high-quality gaffers tape. comes off without a trace. NOT DUCT TAPE. gaffers tape is made to hold strong, but come off clean.
i've also had these out on the wings of T34's (with Gene Cernan)and King Airs. no issues. good work, chad!!!

I have the same mount. Works great!!!
Just make sure you don't have tinted windows when setting it...
since it will make a nice mark on the tint film... don't ask me how I know...

I got to try this out at the track and it worked great. I checked the pump for vaccum between each session but it never lost any seal. I mounted mine to the back window and flipped the camera pad "upside down" to get enough clearance for the camera.
The unit is fairly heavy. I roped it to the rear uper seat belt holders on each side to act as a tether just in case it came loose.
