Are Tiptronic 996 equipped with limited differential
Does anyone know in a 2002 996 without PSM, tiptronic transmission, is the car equipped with limited differential?

Drifting
Yes, but a virtual one rather than a mechanical one. Brakes are moderately applied to slipping wheel to prevent differential wheelspin. If both drive wheels slip/spin both brakes are applied and engine is dethrottled.
Part of traction control package.

Unfortunately in the US, I don't think mechanical LSD has been an option for most 996s. I believe the '99 C2s were available with the mechanical LSD. But not 2000-2004 cars.
The exception is the Anniversary edition which has both PSM and an LSD. And of course the GT3 has the LSD (but no PSM). I believe the GT2 does also.

Is there an advantage to the LSD vs. PSM
I have a 99 c2 (tip) that i just purchased. love it.
had a boxster before and this is totally different but I have been wondering about LSD vs. PSM.
I have heard some people say that the LSD in the '99 is superior....
Interested to hear all of your thoughts!

Look at the inside face of your hood. The sticker there has 3 letter codes denoting what was installed on your car. My 6 speed 1999 has: 220 = locking differential, 222 = traction control system, 224 = active brake differential.

LSD and PSM have very different roles. LSD is intended to maximize your traction by engaging both rear wheels in limited traction situations like coming off a slow corner at the track. It has some side effects like increasing understeer if it engages while you are still turning. I run my 996 club racer as a 2004 so that I can have 3.6 X51 and LSD. It was the only year with that combo.
PSM is all about saving your butt, not making you go faster. It uses braking to manage traction and keep you headed in the right direction. Incredible on the street but worthless for racing. If you raced with PSM you would quickly over heat your brakes.
Is there an advantage to one or the other? On the street, PSM plays a much bigger role. It's a safety net. This would hold true for beginners at the track. LSD is much more valuable for racing.
