EVO intake for 996
Anyone have the new Evo air intake - they claim 12 HP, I am very skeptical - anyone have an experience with this unit yet?????
Any thoughts?? Looks like a nice unit - but the HP and TRQ claim is hard to believe. I might just buy it for the looks and if it performs - BONUS.

I have the EVO intake and I wrote a lot in detail in a thread about 2 months ago that you can search for. To sum it up though. 12 hp may be there but the sound it adds is pretty good. I like it a lot.

I run it and works well. Do a search for VividRacing username and then EVO VFLOW. I have gone over alot with customers and there has been about a 70% positive rate. We have them instock or I can answer some questions you may have by phone. Like I said, I run it in my 00 and I love it.

We've done a good few dynos with the flash and intake and obviously put a lot of these on in California... Not only does it perform but it sounds pretty cool up top

I had mine and the GIAC installed at a local dealership. I was told there would be no problem.

That is my exact worry - I was told by a porsche master mechanic that most of these intakes rob HP and he was laughing at me for even thinking that the intake will make HP - he seemed to think that the porsche engine is a very strict mechanism and that any deviation in the variables throws the system off. I am very confused on this issue ????

It's interesting to see that same exact statements come from my old Nissan forum and now Porsche. The best ways to tell are having even more dyno's done or just get two tiptronic 996's (stock vs EVO) on a 1/4 track, which is appearantly taboo around here, on the exact same day

I think all engines, the m96 included have some room for hp with intakes and exhaust, intake manifolds that is, not air cleaners. The porsche m96 is already operating at 90% VE, very tough to squeeze more out of it without major mods ( the x51 includes cylinderr heads, cams, oiling kit, intake manifold etc and 'only' adds 25hp, there just ain't that much left. If it was that easy the porsche engineers would have slapped on an air filter instead of the x51. This is why the gains are minimal on a m96 3.6, while a 350 chevy(60%VE) has tremendous gains from minor mods.

Volumetric Efficiency, essentially how good the engine is at making hp given an x amount of fuel, aka hp/litre, the m96 is at nearly 90- 100 hp/l already. A 5.7l chevy would be making almost 600 hp at the same VE.

Not to cofuse the air filter issue - I was told the same thing re: chipping the 3.6L 996. Anyone every drive the new M3?? and push the sport button while driving - it feels like you added 30HP by the push of a button when you really added nothing - it just remaps the air/fuel curve (from what I was told) felt a lot faster but in reality not faster at all.
